Amplifying sound with Audacity

AudacityHere we will be teaching you how to amplify the volume level of audio recordings. However, keep in mind that if you used an external microphone when capturing your recording then most likely you won’t need to increase the recording’s volume level.

Let’s start. We will be using the program Audacity which is already installed on your laptop.

 

To find Audacity please click on the Dash (see icon shown below) and a search box will pop up; then type in the word Audacity.

The icon below will appear.  Open this application by clicking on the icon.

When you are in the application the first thing you should do is to select the audio file that you want to amplify. Drag and drop your audio file into Audacity.

Then highlight a the section of audio you want to Amplify as shown in the picture below

Now go to Effects menu on the window’s title bar and select select Amplify.

The Amplify window will pop up –see the image below.

Please just use the default settings adjusting it may cause audio to distort hit OK and you are done Amplifying your audio. In a case where you would need to adjust the level of Amplification the OK button will fade out as presented in the picture below.

This to make sure that you understand that you are distorting the audio to proceed you have to check off Allow clipping
