Having a computer to use is great, but you can make it more personal by customizing it the way you want. This can be done by changing the wallpaper, theme, icons, etc.
Changing Your Wallpaper
This may seem simple, but here are the steps on how to do this. Wallpapers that are already on the computer may be used or an image can be obtained from the internet.
-
-
Search the internet for a image.
-
-
Find a image to use as the wallpaper and click “View Image”, via Google image search.
-
-
Right click the image and select “Save Image As…”
-
-
Go the folder/directory where the images are downloaded, right click the image, then select “Set as Wallpaper”
Organizing Your Desktop Icons
Now let’s make your desktop look cleaner!
-
-
Right Click the desktop, then click “Keep Aligned”
-
-
As you can see, the icons are now in order. The dock at the bottom (in the screen shot above) can be easily installed by reading below.
Installing a dock
-
-
Open the Dash and search for the “Ubuntu Software Center”
-
-
Click on the search bar.
-
-
Search for “Docky” then install it. You may be prompted to enter a password. (This password is the same one used to log on to the computer.)
-
-
When it is done installing it will show “Installed”
-
-
When finished installing, search for “Docky”, in the dash to open the dock.
-
-
The first icon on the dock is for settings, Click on it to see the available options.
-
-
In this window the settings for the dock can be adjusted and customized. Themes can also be downloaded from the internet for the dock.
-
-
Open the Dash and Search for “Startup Applications” and open it.
-
-
Click “Add”.
-
-
Type the text shown in the screenshot above and click “Add” when done. This will make the dock start up when the computer is powered on.
Hiding the Ubuntu Launcher
-
-
Click on the dash and search for “Unity”, then open the Unity Tweak Tool
-
-
Once the tweak tool is opened click “Launcher”.
-
-
Once in the “Launcher” section you can customize the Behavior of the launcher. Auto hide can be selected and if the Reveal sensitivity is down all the way, then the launcher will only be shown when the “Windows” Key is pressed on the keyboard. These settings can be customized to your liking. The tweak tool can also be used to customize icons and the ubuntu interface.
