Simple Programs for Editing Photos

Photo editing can be fun and it’s also easy to do when you have the right tools! Programs that can be used for editing photos are web based and some can be installed locally to your laptop. Making use of browser extensions can be helpful to grab RGB (Red Green Blue) color codes from images online or to make a simple edit, such as cropping a photo. Many photo editing programs are similar and have web based alternatives. Sometimes you may need to edit a photo for a project in one of your classes or you might want to edit a photo for personal use. Pixlr (Web based Online Photo Editor)


Pixlr is an online photo editor similar to Gimp and Adobe Photoshop. The only downside of using Pixlr is you need an internet connection, while Gimp is an offline alternative. In Pixlr, new images can be created or you can edit an image by uploading a local file or accessing a image from a URL.

Shotwell Photo Editor – Pre-installed on your school laptop


Shotwell Photo editor can be used to perform simple edits on photos locally on your computer. By right clicking on a photo then click Open With>Shotwell Viewer allows you to perform simple edits on a photo such as crop, red-eye, and other basic photo editing functions.

Piconion Photo Editor (Google Chrome Browser Extension)


Piconion Photo Editor is an online photo editor similar to Gimp and Adobe Photoshop. Piconion works offline once downloaded as an extension in Google Chrome.

Palette for Chrome (Google Chrome Browser Extension)


Color codes are helpful and most color codes are in RGB (Red Green Blue). Palette for Chrome allows you to grab color codes from images on the web by right clicking on a image in Google Chrome. After Right clicking a image in Chrome it will allow you to select a 16,24,32 or a custom color-palette. Great for finding the exact color from image for editing.

Online Pixel Drawing Tool (Web Based)
