About the 1:1 Laptop Project

The 1:1 laptop learning project provides full-time Penn Manor students with a district supplied laptop to use at both home and school. The program pairs low-cost, durable PC laptops and free open source software to enable students in grades 7 through 12 accessible and affordable computing resources. Launched in February 2014, and expanded in August 2015, approximately 2500 students now carry a district laptop.

The student helpdesk tech support is a key part of the program. Student apprentices assists their peers with common tech issues and problems. The student help desk program was featured in the Red Hat Films documentary: The Power Of Open in Education.
