The following information was recently posted on the Penn Manor Blog:
Penn Manor School District will be in session on Thursday, April 2, 2015, and Monday, April 6, 2015, as a result of the two recent snow days.
School also will be in session on Monday, March 23, 2015, as a result of an earlier weather-related schedule change.
Please make a note of the changes.
The fifth graders began an online math program this past week called ALEKS (www.aleks.com). As the ALEKS website states, “ALEKS uses adaptive questioning to quickly and accurately determine exactly what a student knows and doesn’t know in a course. ALEKS then instructs the student on the topics she is most ready to learn. As a student works through a course, ALEKS periodically reassesses the student to ensure that topics learned are also retained.”
The students will be taking time a few days a cycle during content to complete sessions on ALEKS. This is also a math program that the students can access and work on at home. All your child needs is his/her username and password.
Please let either Mrs. Falk or Mrs. Eckroat know if you have any questions about this program. We are so proud of how hard the fifth graders are working this year, and we are excited about this program because it will help each student at their own level….instructing and challenging them as they move through the program.
On Friday, the fifth graders concluded their discussion of the phases of the moon in science with a fun (and edible) activity. The students had to recreate the eight phases of the moon not only by drawing pictures of each phase, but they had to recreate the phases with cookies as well! They all did a great job using their creativity and knowledge of the moon phases and had a little treat at the same time.
