New J.K. Rowling Book and Competition

Hello All!

Mrs. Paules just told us about an awesome opportunity for all of the creative kiddos in fifth grade! Read on….

The author of Harry Potter, J. K. Rowling, has written a new book!  You can read it for FREE online.  New chapters will be posted every day from now until July.  Also, there is a competition for students to create illustrations for the new book.  Your parents can submit your illustrations on the website to try and get them printed in the book.

There are a lot of Harry Potter fans in fifth grade, so head to this website and get reading! And, how cool would it be to have your illustrations published in the book!

Winding Down the Year!

Hi All!

We will have our fifth grade Google Meet tomorrow at 10:30 as always. If possible, it’s really important for your child to be on our meet. Mr. Schettler and Mr. Mattern are going to pop in at 10:30 to say “hello” and talk a little bit about sixth grade next year. We are also going to talk about the assignments for this week, AND we are going to talk about some fun things we are planning for the last week of school!

Let us know if you have any questions! We can’t believe we are less than two weeks away from school being over. We can’t say this enough – thank you so much for all of the support you have given your children during this time. We have a new appreciation for our phrase, “Conestoga Proud”!

Conestoga’s Oregon Trail!

Our own Noah Hess enjoyed learning about the Oregon Trail so much this week that he decided to create his own! He assembled his own covered wagon, gathered all of the necessary supplies (including his sister, Samantha, and his two dogs), made a map, and followed it to his destination! Way to go, Noah!

Google Meet – April 27

Good morning!

Fifth grade will be doing our Google Meet this morning at 10:30. There is a lot to go over for this week, so we are hoping everyone can join us. Each student should have received an invitation in their email. If they can’t find one, please have them contact their homeroom teacher.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone this morning!

Scholastic Book Order

A few parents have contacted me about ordering books from Scholastic. I am happy to put in an order – it will be shipped to my house, and then I can contact you to figure out the best way to get the books to you.

On our fifth grade blog, you can access the Scholastic website by clicking on “Mrs. Eckroat” at the top of the page and then clicking on “Scholastic Book Order”, or you can go to

On the left side of the page, you will see “Parents Have a Class Code?”. Click on this and enter the code “NFCV7“. This will take you to our classroom page where you can shop by grade (you can shop babies through young adult books), collection, etc.

I will finalize our order on Sunday, May 3. If you would like me to keep it open longer, just email me. This is absolutely voluntary, so there is no obligation to put in an order, but I received enough of an interest that I wanted to let all parents know about this opportunity.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
