Weekly Update!

I hope you all had a great weekend! Because of having two, 4 day weeks in a row, we do not have new spelling words this week. On Wednesday, we will test on the words we received last week. ( See post below). We are focusing our phonics this week on words ending in -all. We also have been reviewing the following skills: /sh/, /th/, /wh/, /ch/, /-ck/, and -ing. In math, we will continue to subtract horizontally and vertically and work on our word problem skills. Please remember to practice basic addition and subtraction to 10 with your child on the nights we do not have a homework page. I’m looking forward to a great week!

Week of Oct. 10th Update

Tonight your child will be bringing home a book on fire safety. We read and discussed this book in class. Please do so at home also. On the last page we drew our family’s safe meeting place in case of an emergency, such as a fire in our homes. If your child did not know his or hers, take a minute to see and hear about what they drew, and their ideas for a meeting spot.  They are anxious to share with you, and asked me to write about it in the blog.

Also, tonight’s homework consists of problem solving questions. Your child is to underline the facts needed to solve the problem, and circle the question  in the problem before solving it. He or she may need help with the reading portion of the math homework tonight.

The week is off to a great start!

Week of October 10, 2017

I hope everyone had a great 3 day weekend! This week in first grade we will be having a lot of fun reading and writing about scarecrows! We also will continue to subtract using numbers 10 and under. At home, practicing basic addition and subtraction with flashcards would be great practice. If you are in need of flashcards, please let me know. I also am impressed with the great reading at home students have been doing. As we continue to read new books, books will be sent home 2 days a week with the expectation they will be read 3 times and returned the following day. The other days of the week, it is up to you and your child to decide what to read. Thanks for your cooperation!

It is not intended to be a major source of stress.
