Week of 10-29

We are ready to move into the last week of October already! This week we will continue to work on our short e words ( ex: pen), introduce words with an l blend at the beginning of the word ( ex: clam), as well as continue to work on subtraction, learn more about seasons and weather,  and manage to squeeze in some fun seasonal activities as well. 

Monday 10/29- Day D Music  – Our students are encouraged to wear red today to show support for those in Warwick after Friday’s tragic events. 

Tuesday 10/30 Day A Applied Engineering 

Wednesday 10/31 Day B Art 

Thursday 11/1 Day C Phys Ed – Our class will watch a special autumn movie today!

Here’s What’s New..

Monday 10/22 Day C- PE-  Today is jersey day for Red Ribbon week                   ( reminding students to stand up against drugs) . Students are encouraged to wear their favorite sports team! We also earned a PJ day tomorrow at school for our class only. Students may choose either a sports shirt/jersey or pajamas. Maybe they could even combine the two…!

Tuesday 10/23 Day D- Music- Today we will have our Lesson 6 test for spelling. Please see the list on last week’s post. Today students are encouraged to wear orange for ” Orange you glad you don’t do drugs! ” 

What’s Up In First Grade…

Tuesday- Today we will get a new spelling list. In lesson 6 on Storytown we will be learning the following words: 

Spelling Words: all, call, fall, wall, ball, tall, not, top, much, thank

High Frequency Words: how, make, of, some

Vocabulary Words: commotion, muffle, overflowing, locate, search, symbol

Our Spelling Test will be on Tuesday, October 23, 2018

Wednesday Day D- Today we will begin our story, All on the Map and work on words ending in -all. We will also continue working on subtraction.  There will be a substitute in the morning as I am at a meeting.

Friday – Day B – We have an early dismissal today! Have a Great Weekend!

Here’s a look at upcoming dates in Mrs. Appel’s first grade

Wednesday 10/10 Day C  : Phys. Ed. There will be a substitute teacher with the class, as I pull students to read independently with them. This reading assessment helps us to find appropriate books for small reading group time. 

Thursday 10/11  Day D: Music 

Friday 10/12 Day A Applied Engineering:  We will have book exchange today! We will also have a short math quiz today on subtraction with pictures. 

Monday 10/15 Day B Art: We will have our spelling test on Lesson 5 words. 

Lesson 5 Spelling : not, lot,dot, hot, hop,top, back, pick, oh, yes 

High Frequency Words: find, much, thank

Happy October!

Thank you to everyone who donated to our apple day celebration! The kids had a blast and got the opportunity to learn a lot about this important fruit. During the month of October we are going to learn about the fall season.

Friday 10/5 Day A –  Applied Engineering – Today we will make paper scarecrows! We will also get our Lesson 5 words. These will be listed on Friday.
