Dear Families,
Below are lists of concepts we have covered over the third marking period. Remember that if your child’s grade has changed, it may be in part due to the curriculum covering different topics and becoming more challenging. As always, please do not hesitate to email with any questions or concerns.

Reading/ Phonics Topics
Retelling using beginning, middle, and end
Finding the main idea and details
Reading words with long vowels (ex: sleep, mean, tide, came…)
Finding the Problem and Solution of a story
Discussing the Author’s purpose – Informative, entertainment, or persuasion
Writing Topics
Students are working to create multi sentence stories on the following topics with a main idea and several supporting details: narrative writing and informational writing
We are working on the editing process and checking for spelling, correct use of (. , ! , ? ).
Checking for neat handwriting.
Our biggest challenge in writing longer stories and informational pieces has been to use periods and capital letters correctly. Many students use capitals and punctuation appropriately when writing one or two sentences, but often forget as the writing gets longer.
