Week of September 16, 2019

Monday Day A Applied Engineering – Today we will get a new spelling list and learn ways to make 9. We will have math homework. Below is a list of our new words for the week. Our spelling test will be on Monday , Sep 23.

Tuesday Day B Art – Today we will take a short quiz on adding numbers to 9. We will also practice short i words and learn about voting in social studies.

Wednesday Day C Phys. Ed– Please wear sneakers! Today we will learn ways to make 10 by adding. We will have math homework tonight. We will learn about the job of president in social studies today.

Thursday Day D Music – Today we will practice how to find missing parts of 10. We will practice this for two days, so we will not have homework tonight.

Friday Day A Applied Engineering and Library Book Exchange – Today is APPLE DAY! To celebrate the first day of fall we are going to have apple day in the afternoon. The students will travel to each first grade class to complete an apple activity or play a game! Have a wonderful weekend!

Monday, September 9, 2019 – Day D MUSIC Today we will use zero to add. We will have math homework. The students will have a substitute in the afternoon.

Tuesday, September 10, 2019 – Day A APPLIED ENGINEERING Today we will take home our first library books. Library books are due every other day A. We will take a short quiz on adding using pictures. Mr. Schuck will visit our class and teach a lesson on social skills. We will have math homework on ways to make 4 and 5.

Wednesday, September 11, 2019- Day B ART Our class will celebrate Patriot Day today by learning and writing about what it means to be a hero. We are creating a first grade display to honor the first responders and victims of 9/11. We will have math homework on ways to make 6 and 7.

Thursday, September 12, 2019 Day C PHYS. ED Please wear sneakers today to participate in gym class! We will have math homework on ways to make 8.

Friday, September 13, 2019 Day D MUSIC Today we will take our second spelling test on lesson 2. See Word List Below:

**** Sometimes you may see on our blog that we are having math homework and then no homework comes home in take home folders. This is because it may take us two days to get comfortable enough with a topic to send it home. Homework does not come home unless, as a class, we are ready to do it with just a little help from our parents. ****

Newsflash!

Our class does not have math homework tonight. We will have homework in math tomorrow as we continue practicing taking two parts and making them into one whole ( beginning addition).

Tomorrow night is Rita’s Night! Our first grade team will be serving Italian ice from 6:30-7:00 pm. We look forward to giving Hambright students a free ice ! See you then!

Tomorrow is Back to School Night at Hambright!

We hope to see you tomorrow, Wednesday August 28 for a drop in between 4-6 pm. We have a scavenger hunt the students can complete with you to show you all of the neat things we have been up to so far this year! Our student teacher, Miss Riley will also be here to meet you!

Tonight your child’s first spelling list is coming home. We will be having our first spelling test on Thursday, September 5. We will be practicing these words A LOT in the classroom but please practice at home. Students will only be tested on the spelling words, not vocabulary or high frequency words at this time.

Updates and Reminders

We are celebrating T day this Tuesday by doing tie-dye with our kiddos! PLEASE remember to send in a plain white tee shirt with your 1st grader if you have not yet already done so on TUESDAY. This project can get a little messy so please send children in old clothes today! I am going to rinse these shirts and students will wear them on the last day of first grade! When they come home, shirts should be washed separately for the first time only.

Wednesday is USA Day! Wear red, white, and blue!!

Thursday is Vote for your favorite cookie day! We will do lots of fun voting activities.

Friday is WATER DAY!!! How wet each child gets will be up to them. They do not have to participate in any activity that they do not want to. We will be doing water balloon games and water relays. Please send an extra pair of clothes with your child today in case he or she gets very wet. If boys want to bring swimming trunks to change into, that would be fine.

This week is going to be FUN!!

Week of May 20, 2019

Monday Day A- O Day – Orange and Outside today! Students can wear orange and weather permitting, we will do some outside activities! Today is the final library book return. Please send any library books back to school. We will get new spelling words today and start our study of 3D shapes. I moved our spelling test to Friday. This is a change from the original calendar sent home in the beginning of May.

Vocabulary Words- properly, familiar, arrived, anticipate, numerous, vibrant

Tuesday Day B- Art- P day- Today we will enjoy a picnic lunch outside! It is also Field Day for grades 1-3 from 1:15-3:15. Be sure to wear your sneakers and comfortable athletic clothes!

Wednesday Day C- Phys. Ed- Q Day! Today we will make a Quilt of Quotes to welcome next year’s first graders. With your child, please write his or her favorite part of first grade and send it to school today. It could be something we learned, an activity we completed, or a special themed day! We are going to combine these special quotes to make a quilt to share with the kindergartners. It will help them to get excited about 1st grade! We will take a short quiz today identifying cubes, cones, cylinders, and prisms.

Thursday Day D – Music – R Day! Wear Red as we read outside and listen to ” Rock and Roll!”

Friday Day A- Library – S -Sports Day! We will take our spelling test today. I will be out of the building in meetings today and the children will have a substitute. Please dress your child in athletic clothing to play sports at the end of the day. This has been a busy week! Enjoy your long weekend and happy Memorial Day! No School Monday!!

Don’t forget about Xtra Math, especially on evenings we do not have homework. Practicing for 10 minutes a night makes a big difference in memorizing basic facts! Let me know if you need your child’s log in information.

Week of May 13

Monday- Day D Music Today we will practice at music for our show on Wed evening! We will also study our new spelling words. I have moved the spelling test to Friday because of all the special schedule changes we had last week.

Wednesday Day B- Art Today Is L Day. If you have a Llama Llama book please send it to school with your child. We have plenty here for them to share as well. The students will also have lollipops during story time today. Tonight is our musical performance! See you there!!

Thursday Day C – Phys. Ed Wear sneakers. Today is M day. Wear Mismatched clothes! We will also take our math test today on 2 dimensional shapes.

Friday Day D- Music Today is N day. Wear your pj’s to watch a short movie and take a nap (haha yea right! ) We will take our spelling test today on ow and ou words!
