Gingerbread week is here and we sure are excited and ready! Thank you for all of the
wonderful donations of candy that came in each day. Your generosity is greatly
We will start decorating the houses around 2:45pm in our room (A112)
on Friday. Anyone is welcome to join us. Guests and visitors just need to
check in at the main office upon arrival. We will wrap up designing the
masterpieces by 3:20. Students may go home with you. The office just needs to
have an orange permission note to not go home on the bus. Thank you in advance
for making this event so successful! We hope to see you on Friday!

Another quick note….

The gingerbread houses have been hot glued together ahead of time so they will be for DECORATION ONLY and NOT TO BE EATEN!  Rest assured (speaking to the kiddos right now!) you will have some sweets to eat during the decorating and most likely some to take home!!

If you are able to come in on Tuesday (12/11), Wednesday (12/12), or Thursday (12/13) around 2:15ish to help glue the houses together, please send me an email or a note so that I can be sure to have the supplies ready.  Thank you!!

Everyone is welcome to join us on Friday, 12/14 to help decorate the houses!  We will begin around 2:45 in our classroom.  You may take your child and his/her gingerbread house home with you that day!

We have been working very hard on our place value chapter in math this week and will most likely be having our test at the end of this week.

With a new month, comes a new character education focus!  This month we will be focusing on courtesy and manners.

Your child came home with his/her Friday Folder filled with lots of hard work.  Please take a look at what’s inside and then return the empty folder tomorrow.

Have a great week everyone!

Gingerbread Houses!

I am so excited to start planning for gingerbread houses!  I think the kids will really enjoy creating colorful masterpieces, but I cannot do it without your help!  There are two ways to help, please consider donating items and/or helping to “build” the houses ahead of time with graham crackers and a glue gun!  See below for details on both.

To donate items, please go to the following sign up genius page.  Donated items need to be sent in by Tuesday, Dec 11.  Thank you!!

If you would be willing to help glue the gingerbread houses together ahead of time, I am looking for volunteers to join me on Wednesday, Dec. 12 or Thursday, Dec. 13 beginning around 2:15 until the end of the day.  Please send me a quick email and let me know if you can help one of those days!  I TRULY appreciate your help!!  (

If you would like to join your child for the decorating, we will be doing it on Friday, December 14 from 2:45 until the end of the day.  This will be so much fun, I am so excited!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Although short, we had a very busy week!  Your child is coming home with lots of papers inside his/her “Friday Folder” today.  Please be sure to empty and return it next Tuesday.

Your child is also coming home with a book order which is due November 30 if you choose to order.   Please complete all orders online using the code GXPDJ.  If you would like to order anything as a gift for your child, let me know and I can arrange a way to get those items to you without your child knowing!  Books make great gifts!!

Reading calendars will be due November 30.  The total must be at least 130 minutes for the month.  I have each student his/her November book donated by my friends and family today.  Maybe it would be a good one to read over the break and get more reading minutes!

I wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving!!  No school Thursday, Friday, and Monday!

Happy Thanksgiving!

It sounds like a lot of second graders had fun in the snow!

We will have a special Shine Time on Monday honoring some veterans that will be visiting Central Manor!  Students are asked to wear red, white, and blue if possible!

Although we have a short week, we will be very busy!  We will be taking our math test on Wednesday.  A great way to prepare is to encourage your child to practice double digit subtraction with and without regrouping at home.  If your child brings in that practice to show me, he/she will earn a blue start on the clip chart!

Your child’s spelling list came home on Friday.  The test will not be until Friday, November 30.

We have an early 1:30 dismissal on Wednesday.  There will be no school on Thursday, Friday, or Monday.  I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving!  I truly am thankful to be your child’s teacher!!

November 12 News

It was such a pleasure to meet with each of you for parent teacher conferences!  I truly feel so lucky to be able to spend my days with your children!!

We are still collecting canned corn for the Thanksgiving food drive.  Thank you to those that have already donated!

Spelling Lists came home today!  The test will be next Friday, Nov. 16.  Friday Folders also came home today.  Please take time to look through the hard work your child did and return the folder empty on Monday.  Thank you!

Picture retake day is on Tuesday if you are interested.  The original packet of pictures should be returned that day.

This month’s character trait Central Manor is focusing on is respect.  We will be discussing what respect looks like and sounds like this week!

We started our double digit subtraction chapter this week and will be working very hard on that next week.  Any subtraction basic fact practice that can happen at home would really benefit your child!  Thanks for the support!

A special note from Mr. Malek and Mrs. Transue:

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Research suggests that a positive school climate can support student success.

This year, Central Manor Elementary School has again decided to gather data on students’, staff, and parents’ perceptions of the school climate. This data will help the school leadership team and staff continue to identify areas of strength and areas for improvement.

Please let us know what you think by completing an anonymous survey at:

When you reach the survey website, please look for the “CLICKING HERE” hyperlink near the top of the web page.

Invitation Code  BYTRD1

The survey will be open until Friday, November 16, 2018.  We plan to have several locations set up throughout the school on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 during parent/teacher conferences.  Please look for a computer in the office, downstairs lobby by the playground doors, and/or in the beach area in or K-2 wing of the building.  Another option is to complete this survey at home on your personal computer.

Please help us improve the school climate by taking 5-10 minutes to complete this survey.   Families with multiple students, please take this survey one time only.  If you choose to complete the survey, please send in a brief note to the office stating you did so.  Your name will be entered into a random drawing to win gift cards to local stores.  Several winners will be chosen.

Hello 2E Families!  Once the rain passed through, it was such a beautiful weekend!  I hope you were able to get out and enjoy it!  The stomach bug hit my family last week (which is why I missed two days) so my family was especially grateful for a beautiful weekend to get out of our house!!  Since I missed two days, routines like homework and leader charts were off, but we will be back on track this week!  The kids didn’t seem to mind the homework part last week…..

The Book Fair is open this week!  Students may bring money or just browse.  Our class will be visiting on Tuesday from 1:55-2:40.  You are invited to join your child at that time if you wish.  The Book Fair will also be open to parents during parent/teacher conferences.

The spelling test will be Monday (11/5)  for the “ar” words.  There will not be a new spelling list for this week.  I will be giving out the next list this Friday which will be tested the following Friday (11/16).

This week we will be adding up all of the minutes from our October reading calendars.  I am so impressed with the amazing reading going on at home!  Thank you for encouraging such a wonderful habit at home!!  Our top three readers from our class will be announced sometime this week and we will see what our second grade combined minutes will be!  Will will beat last month’s minutes???

Due to parent teacher conferences, there will be 1:30 dismissals on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week.

I am really looking forward to meeting with you this week to discuss your child’s progress.  I will do my best to stay on time, but if it is your conference time and my door is still closed, please know I will be with you as soon as possible.  Sometimes with sibling conferences on the other side of the building, conference times are thrown off.  Thank you for your patience!  If you need a reminder time of when your conference is, please send me an email and I will let you know!

October 29, 2018

We showed a lot of great spirit last week with all of our spirit days!  Penn Manor is asking faulty, staff, and students to wear red tomorrow if possible to show support for our friends in the Warwick School District.

We have been working so hard on addition with regrouping!  We have learned how to do it with base ten blocks, by drawing models of the base ten blocks, and by writing it abstractly.  We have even applied that skill in problem solving!  We will be having the test this week and moving into subtraction with regrouping next.

The spelling list that your child brought home Friday will not be tested until Monday, November 5 due to our inservice/no school day on Friday.  A new list will not be given until that Friday and will be tested Friday, 11/9.

Second grade has been asked to donate canned corn for our food drive.

Important upcoming dates:

*November 5 – 9 – Fall Book Fair (The Book Fair will be open during conferences on Wednesday afternoon and evening.)
