This past week we began phonemic awareness which is done orally and with hand motions. We started with rhyming pairs, saying the first sound in a word, and their favorite: putting two words together to make a compound word. When I say cup…cake…they clap their hands together and say the whole word. We also take compound words apart: playground- play… ground.
We read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! and talked about letters. We focused on the lowercase letters t and b, and learned the letter name and the sound: “t, top, /t/” and “b, bat, /b/.” Students identified t and b words, such as turtle and balloon, and drew them.
We read Chrysanthemum, who had 13 letters in her name! We counted how many letters in our names.
More practice to learn our friends’ names included reading “I am ______” up at the board and our Jack in the box chant. See if they will show you at home! 🙂 “______ in the box, sits so still. Will he/she come out? Yes he/she will!”
We read the silly story We Don’t Eat Our Classmates. There were a lot of giggles! 🙂 We discussed the vocabulary words delicious, lonely, and determined. Students completed a Seesaw activity, and made their own T-Rex. We are really working hard on our scissor skills!
In math we identified objects that were alike and different. We also practiced sorting by size.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! 🙂
