Week 12

Thank you all SO much for coming in last week. It was wonderful getting to talk to you about your amazing children. I feel so lucky to be the teacher of this group of third graders. I hope you know that no matter the grades on the report cards, I am so proud of each and every one of them. Thanks for all you do at home to make them the fabulous kids that they are!

Our Week

Math – On Thursday and Friday we took our Chapter 6 test. The students will have a chance to make test corrections this coming week. On Monday, we will begin Chapter 7, which continues with multiplication and division. If your child gets stumped while doing homework, encourage him/her to draw a picture. This can really help, especially when trying to determine which operation to do in a word problem.

ELA – In Reading, we read a story about how animals communicate with each other. In Writing, the students are working hard to earn hamburgers (the gummy kind). If a student’s rough draft includes all of the important parts of a paragraph and has correct capitalization and punctuation, they can earn a hamburger gummy. Lesson 8 spelling and vocabulary will come home tomorrow.

Content – We began our Sun, Earth, and Moon Unit. We spent the week talking about the sun.

Ask Your Child

How far from the Earth is the sun?

In honor of World Kindness Day, the students in 3-B did a “Post-It Parade of Appreciation” through the hallways of LeTort. We reminded all of the teachers and staff how much we appreciate them. Each student also wrote a letter to the teacher/staff member of their choice, expressing their thanks and appreciation for all that they do.

Grading Information

Beginning with the second marking period, you will notice a change in the reading categories when logging in to your child’s Sapphire account.  The change is due to the district’s need to track progress when assessing students on key skills to ensure academic growth in reading for all students.  The categories will be:  vocabulary, comprehension, focus skill, text dependent analysis (for grades 4-6) and written response for grade 3.  Please contact the office if you have any questions.
