Week 10

It was a very exciting week in 3rd Grade! Your child has been working very hard to become the best learner that they can be.  We also had our Harvest Party this week! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions! Here are a few highlights from our week…

This Week

Math: We took our Chapter 5 math test this week. We will be starting Chapter 6. Chapter 6 will focus on patterns in multiplication and division.

Reading: This week we read Aero and Officer Mike. This was a very interesting story that taught us about the life and training of police dogs. We are still practicing Fact and Opinion.

Writing: We are continuing to work on opinion writing. We are learning how to give reasons to support our stated opinion.

Social Studies: We continued to learn about maps. We explored with a compass and learned the names of some important longitude and latitude lines on the globe.

Spelling: We had our Lesson 6 spelling test. Please continue to study the Lesson 7 spelling words. Our Lesson 7 spelling test will be on Tuesday November 1st!

Grammar: We are continuing to learn about nouns! This week we focused on learning the difference between common and proper nouns!

Red Ribbon Week!

Red Ribbon Week 2016 Themes & Activities

October 24-28

Red Ribbon week is a week where people, schools, and communities unite and take a visible stand against drugs.  At the elementary level, Red Ribbon Week is a week where we focus on healthy habits and choices, and pledging to be drug free. 

 

Daily Themes

Monday: RED-dy, set, go!…Be Drug Free, Wear Red

Tuesday: Team up against drugs, Wear your favorite team shirt

Wednesday: Color my world drug free, Wear BRIGHT colors

Thursday: Being drug free is no sweat, Wear a sweatshirt

Friday: I’m a “JEAN”-ius.  I’m drug free, Wear Jeans

(This is also the District Pink Out Day)

Week 9

We had an awesome week! Please read below for some our favorite things that happened this week. We even had a special assembly with a science professor! Make sure to ask your child about the science assembly!

This Week

Math: We took our Chapter 4 math test this week. We started chapter 5. In chapter 5 we will learn about strategies for division. Please make sure your child is practicing their made minutes each night!

Reading: This week we read The Babe and I. This historical fiction story is set in the time of the Great Depression and sparked some very interesting conversation in our class. We are also continuing to learn about facts and opinions.

Writing: This week we learned how to start an opinion writing piece by grabbing the attention of our writer. We also learned how to state our opinion. Stay tuned for more details on our writing project.

Social Studies: We started our

first social studies unit on maps. We learned about maps and globes. We also learned where the seven continents and five oceans are located on the earth.

Spelling: We have been studying our Lesson 6 spelling words. Our Lesson 6 spelling test will be on Monday October 24th!

Grammar: We started learning about nouns. In the next few weeks, we will be talking about the different type of nouns that we find in our sentences.

Week 8

3rd Grade is an exciting place to be! I hope your third grader is sharing some of the exciting things we are doing in class with you at home! Here are some of our highlights from the week…

This Week

Math: We are continuing to explore with multiplication. This week we learned how arrays can help us create multiplication number sentences and how we can use multiplication to find the total number of combinations. Our Chapter 4 math test will be next week!

Reading: We practiced reading a nonfiction article called Camouflage Creatures. We will begin to talk about fact and opinion in the coming weeks.

Writing: This week we talked about what an opinion is. We also found out that different people have different opinions. We will be working to turn our opinions into a published piece of writing in the near future.

Science: We finished our Chemistry unit and took our test. Stay tuned for our new Social Studies unit that we will be starting next week!

Spelling: We had our Lesson 5 spelling test. Our Lesson 6 spelling test will be on Monday October 24th!

Grammar: We will be finishing our sentence unit. The next unit that we will be talking about will have to do with nouns. We will start this next week!

Week 7

We had a very exciting week in 3rd Grade! Each and every third grader is working hard to become a better learner. Here are some of our highlights from the week…

This Week

Math: We finished our subtraction chapter. We will be starting to learn about multiplication. The third graders are very excited to learn how to multiply!

Reading: We read a reader’s theatre called, The School News. We are also completing a camouflage project in class. Ask your child what animal in the reader’s theatre was camouflaged.

Writing: We received letters back from our Pequea pen pals! We are starting to write a letter back to them. Next week, we will be starting opinion writing. Stay tuned for more details.

Science: This week we made a water cycle in a bag (see pictures of our experiment below). We will be reviewing our Chemistry unit and having a unit test soon.

Spelling: We had our Lesson 4 spelling test. Our Lesson 5 spelling test will be on Thursday October 13th!

Grammar: This week we learned about complex sentences. We are practicing to write our own sentences of different types.
