Week 13

Wow! Time is flying by! Tuesday November 22nd will be my last day substituting for Mrs. Binkley. Mrs. Binkley will be back at school on Tuesday November 29th. Mrs. Binkley and I will be in contact with one another to make sure the transition goes smoothly for your child. Thank you so much for all of your support during my time with your child! This Week

Math: We took our Chapter 7 math test. Next week, we will be starting Chapter 8 which focuses on multiplying and dividing by 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, and 12. Help your child at home by practicing some of their multiplication math facts!

Reading: This week we read Stone Soup. We discussed the elements of a folk tale and continued to practice identifying the main idea and supporting details within a given passage.

Writing: We are continuing to work on our opinion writing. Many of us are now editing and conferencing with Mrs. Diehm. We will begin to work on our final copy.

Science: This week we learned about different natural disasters that change how the earth looks in a quick amount of time. We also watched Mrs. Diehm do an erosion demonstration!

Spelling: We had our Lesson 9 spelling test. We will get new spelling words for Lesson 10 on Monday!

Grammar: We finished up our unit on nouns! We did some review with what we have learned about nouns, and next week will have a noun quiz!

**We also had five different Ag in the Classroom presentations this week. Ask your child to share with you something that they learned from these special presentations.**

Week 12

This Week

Math: We took our Chapter 6 math test. We started chapter 7, which will cover multiplying and dividing by 0, 1, 3, and 4. We are enjoying learning about multiplication and division!

Reading: This week we read How Animals Talk. We enjoyed learning about the different ways that animals are able to communicate with one another. We will continue to focus on picking out the main ideas and details in a passage.

Writing: We are working on writing an opinion piece about which season is the best. We are currently working on writing our rough draft. This will eventually become a published piece of writing.

Science: We started our Earth Sciences unit this week. This week we learned about how weathering and erosion can change the surface of the earth. We will continue to learn about things that can change our earth throughout the remainder of the unit.

Spelling: We had our Lesson 8 spelling test. Please continue to study the Lesson 9 spelling words. Our Lesson 9 spelling test will be on Friday November 18th!

Grammar: We are continuing to learn about nouns! This week we focused making nouns possessive and how to appropriately use the apostrophe to show possession. We will continue this in the coming weeks.

This Week

Math: We are continuing to work on Chapter 6. In chapter 6, we will learn our 2, 5, and 10 multiplication facts. We will also find patterns within multiplication and division.

Reading: We started learning about main idea and detail this week. We will be reading nonfiction text in order to identify the main idea and details within the passage.

Writing: Aaron was our Student of the Week! We will write an information piece about Aaron and the things he likes. We are also continuing to work on opinion writing.

Social Studies: We wrapped up our Maps Unit this week. We will be starting a new science unit next week. Stayed tuned for details!

Spelling: We had our Lesson 7 spelling test. Please continue to study the Lesson 8 spelling words. Our Lesson 8 spelling test will be on Thursday November 10st!

Grammar: We are continuing to learn about nouns! This week we focused on learning about singular and plural nouns.
