Week 16

Our Week

Math: This week we took our Chapter 8 test and began learning about the Distributive Property of Multiplication. The test that we took this week was a difficult one. It had a lot of word problems, most of which required multiple steps. I am working closely with the students in my math class on their test corrections. I am using this opportunity to review concepts and really build problem solving skills. Look for the test to come home sometime next week.

Reading: This week we read a story called “A Pen Pal for Max”. We are also continuing to try to crack the case of the 12 Day of Christmas.

Writing: We started a new writing project this week. I am so impressed with the kids’ enthusiasm for writing. I cannot wait to read their finished pieces!

Content: This week we learned about renewable and nonrenewable resources.

Spelling: Our Lesson 12 test will be on Tuesday. I will not be sending home a new list until after Christmas break.

Week 15

Our Week

Math: This week we used our strategies to multiply and divide by 11 & 12. We will take our Chapter 8 test on Tuesday.

Reading: This week we read a story called “Loved Best”. We also started a read aloud. In our book, Who is Stealing the 12 Days of Christmas?, there is a big mystery that needs to be solved. My third grade detectives are keeping excellent notes in hopes of catching the Christmas thief!

Writing: We are continuing to focus on adding style to our writing. The third graders did a great job adding adjectives to their poetry to make it come alive for their reader. They also wrote a poem about verbs, which is what we are learning about in grammar.

Content: We learned about the different layers of soil and what makes each layer unique.

Spelling: During Daily 5 students have been practicing their Lesson 11 words. Our test is on Monday.

Week 14

Hello Families!

The 3rd graders made my first week back an awesome one! This is such a fun group of kiddos! Leaving Landon was hard, but coming back to a job that I love and students like this, made it so much better. I am looking forward to the rest of the year with this fabulous class!

Our Week

Math: We are continuing to explore multiplication and division. In my math class, we talked about all of the really cool patterns that go along with our 9 facts! Ask your child to explain some of the patterns to you….they may also share that I was WAY too excited about my 9 facts. J

Reading: This week we performed a readers’ theater. The kids did a great job!! We are also finishing up our book club books. I have enjoyed seeing how much they have all grown as readers since the first week of school.

Writing: We just finished an opinion writing project. Today we talked about adding style to our writing. We want our readers to be EXCITED to read what we have written. We are using our five senses to write a holiday poem that is full of style!

Content: We discussed different types of rocks and soil this week.

Spelling: We took our Lesson 10 test today. The Lesson 11 list will come home next week.

Ask Your Child
