Week of February 19, 2018

Our Week

Math – We finished Chapter 11. The kids did a great job with elapsed time, which can be a tricky concept. We will complete test corrections tomorrow.

ELA – We read several fables which we then compared and contrasted. We also read a new reader’s theater. Students worked together to complete a written response. To make sure that everyone played a part, students had to use talking chips. The kids did an awesome job working collaboratively.

Content – We learned more about Japanese culture and wrote some Haiku poetry.

Spelling – We took the Lesson 21 test on Friday. Our Lesson 22 test will be on Friday.

Week of February 12, 2018

Our Week

Math – We are currently learning about concepts from Chapter 11. The students learned how to determine time intervals or elapsed time. We used a number line as a visual and the students jumped by hours or minutes on the number line to find out how much time elapsed between a start time and an end time. We also learned about metric units of capacity (liters and milliliters) and customary units of capacity (gallons, quarts, pints, cups, and ounces).

ELA – The kids really enjoyed reading a Chinese version of Little Red Riding Hood. We also continued to learn about verbs and how make sure that the subject of our sentence agrees with the verb. For President’s Day, the kids had to write about why they would be a good president.

Content – As part of our multicultural unit, the students learned about Mexican and Japanese cultures.

Spelling – The Lesson 21 list was sent home. We will take our test on Friday.
