# Just a few things :)

Good afternoon, everyone! I just wanted to update you on a few things going on in the classroom. Last week, the students took their first benchmark assessment for Math (covered chapters 1 and 2) – they did a FANTASTIC job! ๐Ÿ™‚ At conferences next week I can show you how well your child did on the assessment. We also had a little fall/pumpkin party on Friday. We read “The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything” and completed an activity to go along with the book. Then we had some snacks (pumpkin pie, pumpkin whoopie pies, pumpkin cupcakes, pumpkin cookies) and watched Winnie The Pooh: Frankenpooh. The kids loved it! ๐Ÿ™‚

Math- In math we have been learning how to count and write numbers 1-20. We also learned about ordinal numbers (first to tenth). If you are wondering what you can do to help your child at home, you can always practice writing and counting numbers 1-20, and practice ordinal numbers.

Reading- We have been focusing a lot on rhyming words – knowing that the ending sounds are the same for rhyming words. Today, the students were introduced to the word ‘alliteration’ – knowing that the beginning sounds are the same for alliteration.

Writing- The students have been given writing prompts about 3 times a cycle. They have to respond to a writing prompt with a picture, labels, and some even try and write a sentence. ๐Ÿ™‚ I will show you more of this during conferences as well! Handwriting- The letters we have learned about so far are: M, S, T, R, N, P, C and A. It is important that they know the difference between the letter name and the letter sound. Practicing the letter name and sounds with your child is always helpful. ๐Ÿ™‚

I am so impressed with all of the students’ progress so far – so great to see! ๐Ÿ™‚
