Math– We just finished our first Unit of Math and took the Chapter 1 Math Test- the students did great!!  I will be sending the tests home tomorrow.

*I am sure you’ve heard, but I introduced the kids to First In Math… a website that helps with their math facts. This is an easy and fun way to practice basic math facts. The kids have their own user name and password so they can get on at school or home. They LOVE it!

Writing– We have been learning how to write narratives, including the characters, setting, plot (who, what, where, when) and the beginning, middle, end. The kids are really enjoying this!

Spelling- The Spelling Test for Lesson 3 will be this Wednesday, September 30. Thanks for all of the support at home with studying/homework! 🙂

Reading- Last week in Reading we met Henry and Mudge. We also learned a new game called “I HAVE WHO HAS” to practice our robust vocabulary words… ask your child about this. 🙂 They LOVE it! We started guided reading groups on Thursday and the students did amazing! I was so impressed with how well they worked at their stations while I was reading with a group at the back table. We will start using the computers during guided reading as one of the stations, so if your child has headphones/ear buds feel free to send them to school!

Social Studies– We have been learned about the seven continents- this week the students will learn about the oceans surrounding the continents.

If you have any questions/concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me. I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend and like always, I am looking forward to seeing your kiddos tomorrow morning! 🙂

Field Trip to Muddy Run Park

Good Afternoon!

A few reminders for tomorrow’s field trip to Muddy Run Park:

1. If the students are packing their own lunch, please have them put it in a plastic bag and write their name in large   print on the outside of the bag.  Everything must be disposable (we will not bring anything home).

2. Please send a water bottle along with your child. It does not appear that we will experience high temperatures     tomorrow, but we will have water stations throughout for the children to stay hydrated.  They can take a disposable water bottle or a plastic one.  Each child will be responsible for his/her own water bottle ALL day.

3. Bring water shoes and a towel (our last activity will involve the students getting in the stream to look for Macro invertebrates).

4. We plan on leaving first in the morning… so please make sure your child gets to school on time. 🙂

5. Wear comfortable clothes.

We will Arrive at 9:20 AM and depart at 1:35 PM. 🙂

Thank you SO much for coming to Back to School Night – it means so much to me! I loved getting to meet most of you and show you around the room. I hope you enjoyed seeing your child’s Guess Who paper, About Me poster, Arthur puppet and Heart Map. I know the kids loved getting to show you what we do for our morning routine, the birthday door, our behavior chart, etc. The kids are working so hard and I am SO proud of them! 🙂 For those of you who were not able to make it, I would love to set up another time for you to come into the classroom so I can meet you and show you around! Please email me if you would be interested in this. I did take a few pictures of our Back to School Night… I will post them soon. Thanks again for all of your support at home – I appreciate it!

Reader’s Theater :)

WOW- what a great day! 🙂

Yesterday, during reading, the students had some fun with Reader’s Theater.

Reader’s Theater is an integrated approach for involving students in reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities.  It involves children in….

  • sharing literature,
  • reading aloud,
  • writing scripts,
  • performing with a purpose, and
  • working collaboratively.

Each person was in charge of his/her very own part. They had to read from the script and act out “Arthur’s Reading Race”. The four characters were: Arthur, D.W., Narrator 1 and Narrator 2. We decided to share in front of the class. Here are some pictures… some groups got REALLY into it! What a great group of kids! 🙂
