Smith’s Super Stars

Good morning! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! I spent mine with family and friends, went to the Barnstormers game to support a student in our class and even played a little soccer on Sunday! πŸ™‚ I am excited to hear about your kiddo’s weekends!

Below, is a little of what we are doing each day in the classroom-

Reading- We have been phenomenal readers in the classroom! We learned that there are 3 ways to read! 1. Read the Pictures 2. Read the Words and 3. Retell the story. Every day we have been either reading to ourselves or reading with a buddy! πŸ™‚ We will be starting guided reading groups next week! I will meet with each group at my back table and start reading books that are the perfect level for your child! Your child will bring home the book and he/she will have to read 2 or 3 times. There will be a sticky note in the back of the book and I will need to see your signature two or three times (depending on how many times your child will have to read that night).

Writing- We have been responding to writing prompts lately and having some days to FREE write (write about anything that is on our mind- real or make-believe). πŸ™‚ I love how creative your kiddos are! Today, your child will write about his/her favorite subject in school and add two details as to why. I am looking forward to reading your child’s writing! πŸ™‚

Math- I am SO impressed with how well your kiddo’s are grasping each concept taught so far in Math. We have been focusing on addition (the whole first chapter is on addition). Today, we will be finding different ways to make the numbers 6 and 7. For example, 3+3=6, 4+2=6, 5+1=6, etc. We are going to start Math stations on Wednesday! πŸ™‚

Content- We have been really focusing on Rules- Home Rules and School Rules. We have been sorting between home rules and school rules and we will be completing a “No David” project tomorrow and Wednesday! They are adorable. I am excited for you to see them! Your child will write how David could have been a better leader and will make a “David” on construction paper. Hopefully that makes sense! πŸ™‚

I am so enjoying working with your kiddo and look forward to more time with them this week! Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have! πŸ™‚
