Weekly News: April 6 – 8

Heading into week 2 of distance learning! Thank you for your patience! Lots of good things in this blog post. Keep reading down the blog. Click HERE for the Remote Learning Opportunities link.

We have permission to have a google meet! You do not need google to be able to join us. Just click the link.

On Wednesday, April 8, we will try a google meet. Mr. Malek and Mrs. Suydam will try to join us!

Parents/Guardians: what I need from you…please attend with your child. Help them navigate through google meet so they can feel comfortable talking to our class. Students, please have a toy or project (legos? art?) that you would like to show the class. Everyone will have a chance to talk if they would like. I will pull names (like I do in class) and that person may turn on their microphone and tell us about their toy or whatever else they’d like to talk about. Like on our show and share days, you can say two sentences about your item. I hope this way the students will get to see everyone that can attend and that we will all start to feel comfortable with this format as we move through April.

Math Online Learning https://www.splashlearn.com/

I have found out that Splashlearn is only free for 25 problems if you sign up as a parent. I did sign up for free as a teacher and ANYONE may join, you just need to tell me you want me to put your child on the roster. Then I will send you their username and password. They have to take the placement tests that I set up so that they can begin at their level. I really like this site and I hope all of my students can take advantage of it.

Headsprout…this site is free to sign up, but if you’re having trouble, I do have a teacher account and can put your child into my “class”. Let me know if you need help with this.

Sapphire Account: The district strongly encourages you to sign up for your child’s sapphire account.

**We strongly encourage you to obtain a Sapphire account to review student grades, attendance, etc. especially in these times of uncertainty. We will be distributing our third marking period report cards for grades 1-6 through the parent portal. Simply click here and follow the directions to obtain this account.

If you have previously obtained a Sapphire account, there is NO NEED to submit the documentation again.  Your username, password and pin # are all still valid.

OFFICE HOURS— Teachers will have a one hour availability each day to help you or your child with any school related questions. I would like to know if it would suit you better to have a 30 minute time in the morning and then again in the afternoon, or just one hour straight someday mornings, some days afternoons? I want to be sensitive to your new schedules as well.

Thanks for bearing with me through this long blog! See you online Wednesday!!!
