Weekly News: October 19 – 23

There is nothing on our calendar this week…yet. You never know what may come up!!

We want to welcome our new students Cole (AM) and Noah (PM)!!!

Math: Finish Chapter 1…we will have a math test this week on numbers 0-5 and Greater Than, Less Than, Equal To. We will move on to reading and writing numbers up to 10 and begin using a Ten Frame. In the back of your child’s STAR folder is a set of Ten Frames and a number line. It is VERY important that students bring their folders back to school every day. They will need those later this week, but are in their folder as a “just in case” we are suddenly closed for any reason.

Letters and Sounds: Your child should know the name of the letter, the sound it makes, and how to write these letters using their FUNdation lines. t, b, f, n, m, i, u, c, and this week we will learn, o, a, g.

Sight Words: We have learned I, a, see, my. We will learn the and at this week.

You can print off our sight words and add our new words to their pile of “known sight words.” Students will be tested in November on the first 25 words on this list. These are words they need to master before first grade. The other 24 sight words are first grade exposure words.

This week will be a fun filled week of Edible Math, learning more about BATS (yes, for some reason they are my favorite animal) and hopefully I’ll begin to meet small groups of students to focus on any area that they are ready to move forward on.
