Welcome to First Grade!
I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing summer. After spending the summer outside playing with my sons, Aidan and Alexander, I am looking forward to another wonderful school year. This letter will provide you with some basic information about our classroom and our schedule.
Our specials rotate on a 4 day cycle, A, B, C, and D.
A – Physical Education, Please have your child wear sneakers.
C – Music
D- Library/Tech Ed
On Mondays, I will send home a copy of the spelling and sight words for the week. Our spelling tests will be on Fridays.
It is important for your child to have a backpack for school. Your child will receive a home folder the first day of school. I will have students place important papers and homework in their folder each day before dismissal. I strongly encourage you to empty this folder each night. You can also keep updated with classroom and school activities by subscribing to my blog at http://blogs.pennmanor.net/emattern/.
This year, I am going to try something new to keep your child organized. Instead of a pencil box, I am asking that your child bring in a zip lock bag with his/her name on it. You can put 5 pencils, a box of crayons, 3 glue sticks, an expo marker, and an old sock inside this bag. At the end of each month, this bag will come home for you to refill. I am hoping that this will help to keep your child organized.
To keep our room clean, it would be great if your child could bring in a box of clorox wipes or hand sanitizer. I appreciate your help in keeping our room a germ free zone!
Things your child needs for the first day of school, Wednesday, August 21.
- Ziplock Bag filled with supplies
- Back Pack
- Water bottle
- Name tag included in this letter
I look forward to meeting each one of you. Meet the Teacher Night will be on August 28th from 4-6. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at school. Together we will make your child’s school year meaningful and successful.
Enjoy the rest of summer!
