# The Week of 1/29…

I cannot believe this week marks the end of January! This year is flying! On Friday- your child will be coming home with their marking period 2 report card. Please sign the yellow envelope and return to school. As always- email me with any questions/concerns 🙂

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s classroom this week…

In Math… we will continue with Chapter 9 this week with a quiz on Monday to review lessons 1 through 5. We will also be  learning how to subtract unlike fractions, estimate sums and differences, add and subtract mixed numbers, subtract with renaming, and solve problems by determining reasonable answers. Lots to learn this week! We will have our Chapter 9 test next week (mid week).

In Social Studies… this week we will continue with our government unit by diving deep into the Bill of Rights!

In ELA…we will finish our Lesson 14 TDAs this week and wrap up this story all together. We will move on to Lesson 16 “A School Story” and be introduced to a new set of vocab words and a new focus skill: Making Inferences. We will practice making inferences within texts throughout the week through a variety of activities.

In Grammar…we will learn all about pronouns this week!

In Spelling…Spelling Packets for Lesson 17 are due this Friday 2/2.  Our test will also be on 2/2.  Spelling words are getting harder and harder each week. Spelling packets may be getting more difficult as well. Packets of the definitions and examples of each spelling word are always available for your students to take home to help them complete their packets.  The spelling words this week are….

# The Week of 1/22…

Can you believe we are halfway through the school year!? Now that marking period 3 has started, how many days until spring weather? 🙂

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s class this week…

In Math… we will have one more day of review for our Chapter 8 Assessment then take the test on Tuesday. On Wednesday, we will begin Chapter 9. This week, we will learn how to round fractions and add/subtract like fractions.

In Social Studies… this week we will learn all about the Constitution. The questions Who, What, Where, When, and Why will be answered about our nation’s government. We will specifically learn about the Preamble, the 3 branches of Government, and Articles 1-7 of the Constitution. We will have a our first quiz on Thursday.

In ELA…we will finish “A Drop of Water” this week. We will end this story with our assessment on Wednesday. (We will also be doing a hands on fun science experiment that goes along with our story.)  On Thursday, we will begin a new TDA that is based off of a new reading passage.

In Grammar…No Grammar this Week!

In Spelling…Spelling Packets for Lesson 16 are due this Friday 1/26.  Our test will also be on 1/26.  The spelling words this week are….

# The Week of 1/17…

I hope everyone enjoyed their long 4 day weekend! Back to business for the next 3 days….can you believe this week starts MARKING PERIOD 3!? Where is this year going??

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s classroom this (short) week…

In Math… we will finish Chapter 8 this week. We will work on word problems on Wednesday, review on Thursday, and take our test on Friday. The objectives that were covered this chapter are greatest common factor, least common multiples, simplifying fractions, comparing fractions, and converting fractions into decimals. Next week, we will learn how to add and subtract fractions.

In Social Studies… this week  my homeroom students are finally back with me! We will be learning all about our Government and how it came to be. This week we will analyze the Articles of Confederation. We will have a quiz on the A of C on Friday.

In ELA…we will begin Lesson 14 “A Drop of Water” and continue with our focus skill: Cause and Effect. Students will be given a cause and effect quiz based on a non fiction passage on Thursday. We will also be working on a TDA (separate from the Lesson 14 story) this week. A new story also means new vocab!

In Grammar…No Grammar this Week!

In Spelling…Spelling Packets for Lesson 15 are due this Friday 1/19.  Our test will also be this 1/19.  The spelling list is is a review of Lessons 10-14!

# The Week of 1/8…

Having two snow days last week was quite a surprise! I hope everyone was able to stay warm! Winter is here, hopefully it doesn’t stay for too long this year! Just a reminder we DO have school this Friday January 12th. Our teacher in service day has been moved to Tuesday, January 16th (due to high school finals) (No School Monday, January 15th)

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s classroom…

In Math… we will continue with Chapter 8 this week. We will learn how to simplify fractions, learn how to find the least common multiple of numbers, learn how to compare fractions, and learn how to convert fractions into decimals. We will have a quiz on Tuesday.

In Social Studies… Mrs. Purzycki’s students will take their Revolutionary War Test on Tuesday and my homeroom students will start our Government Unit on Wednesday. This week we will learn about the Articles of Confederation.  My homeroom students will have their science test on Tuesday.

In ELA…we will continue Lesson 13 this week and read “Stormalong” We will continue to work on identifying cause and effect relationships. We will do an activity with a paired selection and have our vocab assessment for lesson 13 on Thursday. On Friday we will begin our lesson 13 story ” A Drop of Water”.

In Grammar…We will learn about three kinds of conjunctions in sentences.

In Spelling…Due to the snow days, our spelling Packets for Lesson 14 are due on Tuesday. We will have our spelling test on Tuesday as well. We will not have a new set of spelling words this week due to the snow days. I will give Lesson 15 packets out this Friday. The spelling list is activated on spelling city so please encourage your children to study their words through this website (if they have access to a computer at home) This is a fun and interactive way to learn their spelling words.  https://www.spellingcity.com/users/mrsodonnell007

# Happy New Year! The Week of 1/2…

I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday and a Happy New Year! My Christmas vacation included a lot of quality family time and lots of cuddles with this little guy! We are almost half way through our school year. I can’t even believe it!!

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s class this week…

In Math… we will begin Chapter 8 this week. We will learn how to interpret fractions, understand how to identify the least common multiple of two numbers, learn how to put fractions into simplest form and work on word problems where we have to guess and check in order to find the answer. We will have a quiz on Friday to assess what we have learned so far!

In Social Studies… this week will be my final week with Mrs. P’s homeroom. We will review and take our assessment on Friday. My kiddos will be back with me for the final week of Marking Period 2 (next week) to begin our Opinion Writing Unit during content time. (Starting Marking Period 3 (1/16)- we will begin our Government Unit!)
