The Week of 3/26…

What a WINTER! Hopefully we have seen the last of the snow for the season and we will be welcoming Spring weather before we know it. This week marks the final week of Marking Period 3. 🙂 Goodbye March, Hello April!

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s class this week…

In Math… this week we will be learning all about polygons, triangles, and quadrilaterals. We will also be learning how to find the volume of rectangular prisms.  We will be learning lots of new vocabulary terms this week!

In Social Studies… this week we will be reviewing for our assessment and take our government test on Thursday. I will see my homeroom students when we come back from our long weekend for our final Social Studies unit this year: Western Expansion.

In ELA….this week we will continue our Lesson 21 story: “Interrupted Journey” and continue to practice our focus skill: Author’s Perspective. We will go over a new list of vocab words that go along with this lesson. We will learn all about endangered species by creating brochures about these animals. We will begin our persusaive writing unit this week as well.

In Spelling: This packet and test will be a TWO WEEK LIST. These packets will not be due until April 6th. Our test will also be on April 6th.

The week of 3/19…

I hope everyone has a great weekend (I’m so sorry I did not get to post last week) We have a 4.5 day week coming up (early dismissal on Friday!) Happy St. Patty’s Day 🙂

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s classroom this week…

In Math… we will start the week off by reviewing for our Chapter 11 assessment. We will have our test on Wednesday this week. On Thursday we will being Chapter 12- Geometry. We will begin by learning all about polygons and triangles. I love geometry!!

In Social Studies… this week Mrs. Purzycki’s class will continue to learn about the Bill of Rights and complete poster activities. Our final day before we switch back for content will be March 29th.

In ELA….this week we will finish up our TDAs from Lesson 19 and complete a webquest on Thomas Edison, a pretty amazing man! On Tuesday, we will begin Lesson 21 in Storytown. The next two lessons we will be focusing on Author’s Purpose and Perspective as our skill. We will read our Lesson 21 story this week: “An Interrupted Journey”, which is a story all about the life of sea turtles. We will also begin our writing unit on persuasive essays, which ties in with our focus skill this week. We will learn about different types of persuasive strategies s and begin thinking about the topic we will be writing about for our persuasive writing piece.

In Spelling…NO SPELLING THIS WEEK. Students will be given lesson 24 spelling packets on Friday.

We will have our social lesson with Mr. Schuck on Wednesday and have a buddy lesson this week on Thursday with Mrs. Cornell’s 2nd graders! 🙂

The Week of 3/5…

Happy March! I just can’t believe how quickly this year is going!

On Friday, we had so much fun during our “mystery hangout”. We were able to guess that Mrs. Mulhern lives in JAPAN! She woke up at 4:30 am to connect with us! It was such an awesome experience video chatting with someone literally across the world. Technology is such an amazing tool and I am so happy we have the opportunity to utilize it in the classroom on a daily basis! Here are some pictures from our experience! Where will we travel to next??

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s classroom this week…

In Math… we will continue with Chapter 11 this week. We will learn how to solve problems using logical reasoning, convert measurements of capacity, learn how to display measurement data in fractions of a unit on a line plot and will convert measurements of length within the metric system. We will have a quiz on Wednesday.

In Social Studies… this week Mrs. Purzycki’s class will be learning about the delegates who created the Constitution, the preamble, and the 3 branches of government.

In ELA….this week we will learn how to identify the main idea and supporting details in fiction and non fiction reading passages. We will practice using these genres through station activities.  We will read a new story about Thomas Edison this week (Lesson 19). Our Lesson 18 vocabulary assessment will be on Tuesday and we will be introduced to a new set of words on Wednesday.

In Spelling…Spelling Packets for Lesson 22 are due this Friday 3/9. Our test will also be this 3/9. The spelling list is activated on spelling city so please encourage your children to study their words through this website (if they have access to a computer at home) This is a fun and interactive way to learn their spelling words. https://www.spellingcity.com/users/mrsodonnell007
