10.1 to 10.5: A Glimpse at Our Week…

A new month means a new character education theme! This Month, students will be learning about TEAMWORK!

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s class this week:

Math: Students will be finishing Chapter 2 this week and will have their assessment on Wednesday. We will begin Chapter 3: Division on Thursday.  

ELA: Students will finish up Lesson 3 this week with a webquest on Nellie Bly and a comprehension/vocab assessment on Wednesday.  Character Motive focus skill assessment will be on Thursday. We will be working on a new vocab list for Lesson 5 and practicing our fluency and expression when we read our Reader’s Theater on Friday. 

Writing: We will be working on 2 column notes and how to use them to complete a text dependent analysis. 

Grammar: We will have a verb phrase quiz on Tuesday. We will identify simple subjects, simple predicates, and subjects in imperative sentences as well this week. 

Social Studies: My students will be going to Mrs. Purzycki’s class starting Monday to begin their Science Unit on Plant and Animal cells. 

Spelling: Lesson 5 spelling test will be on Friday. Packets are due Friday as well. Go to  https://www.spellingcity.com/users/mrsodonnell007 to practice spelling words from lesson 5. This is a review lesson (lessons 1-4). There is an extra worksheet in their packets this week that will be counted as extra credit if completed.

9.24 to 9.27: A Glimpse at our Week…(no school this Friday)

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s class this week:

Math: Students will be continuing Chapter 2 this week. We will learn how to multiply multi digit equations using Area Model. We will practice multiplication with concrete, representational, and abstract models.  

ELA: Students will work on their Musician Research Projects this week. Our focus skill will continue to be identifying character motives, however this week we will focus on identifying them within non-fiction texts. We will read a story about Nellie Bly and learn more about this magnificent women through a web quest.  

Writing: We will be working on 2 column notes and how to use them to complete a text dependent analysis. 

Grammar: We will identify verb phrases, simple subjects and simple predicates in sentences this week. 

Social Studies: We will have our 13 Colonies Assessment on Wednesday! They received study guides last week.  My students will go to Mrs. Purzycki’s class for science starting next week to learn all about plant and animal cells!

What is happening in September: 

28- No School In-Service Day

Garden Day!

Tomorrow, 9/19, we will be helping in the Garden for our Brain Break (afternoon). We will be mulching and weeding. Please encourage your children to wear sneakers tomorrow and an outfit they don’t mind getting a little dirt on! If you have garden gloves you can send in, that would be awesome! We are excited to help maintain CM’s growing garden. 

9.17 to 9.21: A glimpse at our Week…

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s class this week:

Math: Students will be starting Chapter 2 this week. We will learn about prime factorization, how to use powers and exponents in expressions, how to use basic facts and patterns to multiply multiples of 10, 100, 1,000 mentally, and how to use tables to solve word problems. We will have a quiz on Friday on the learned objectives from the week. 

ELA: Students will take their reading CDTs on Monday. We will begin Lesson 3 “Chang and the Bamboo Flute” on Tuesday. We will be introduced to a new set of vocab words: grudgingly, urgently, indignantly, sneered, desperately, and pried.  Our new focus skill will be Character Motives. We will start a research project this week that focuses on famous musicians.  

Writing: We are learning what makes a narrative, opinion, and informative writing piece this week.

Grammar: We will learn how to identify action and linking verbs in sentences this week. 

Social Studies: We are learning about slavery and indentured servants this week within our 13 Colonies Unit.

9.10 to 9.14: A Glimpse at our Week…

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s class this week:

Math: Students will be taking their Chapter 1 math test on Wednesday. We will review on Monday and Tuesday. 

ELA: Students will continue to focus on Conflict Resolution in our Lesson 2 story “Line Drive”. Students will be introduced to a new set of vocab words and practice identifying the conflict, plot events, and resolution in various texts. 

Writing: We are learning what makes a narrative, opinion, and informative writing piece this week.

Grammar: We will learn how to write sentences correctly and how to correctly identify common and proper nouns in sentences this week. 

Social Studies: We are comparing the three regions of the 13 colonies this week and creating posters to display the information we have learned so far. We will have a quiz on Friday. 

Spelling: Lesson 2 spelling test will be on Friday. Packets are due Friday as well. Go to  https://www.spellingcity.com/users/mrsodonnell007 to practice spelling words from lesson 2.

9.4 to 9.7: A Glimpse at our Week…

I hope everyone had a restful Labor Day weekend. I am hoping that now summer is “unofficially” over, we get some cooler weather! 

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s class this week:

Math: Students will be learning how to write decimals in standard, word, and expanded form, they will compare decimals based on their value, they will order whole numbers and decimals, and they will use the four step problem solving plan to solve word problems. Their Chapter 1 test will be at the beginning of next week. 

ELA: Students will be rereading “Rope Burn” this week with an emphasis of determining the conflict, plot events, and resolution of the story. We will complete a project using the story this week and complete a station activity in order to practice identifying our focus skill. We will have a vocab assessment towards the end of the week. 

Writing: We are learning/reviewing what makes “One Good Paragraph” and the criteria that makes a narrative, opinion, and informative writing piece this week. 

Writing: We will learn about the different types of sentences this week.

Social Studies: We are learning about the 13 colonies
