10.29 to 11.1 (In Service on 11.2) A Glimpse at our Week…

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s class this week:

Math: Students will begin Chapter 4 this week. This chapter is a short one! This week we are learning how to estimate division problems with 2 digit divisors and we are learning how to solve with 2 digit divisors. We will have a quiz towards the end of the week. 

ELA: We are learning a new focus skill this week. Our next two stories will be focused on sequence. We will read “When Washing Crossed the Delaware” and begin a sequence writing assignment this week. We will learn new robust vocab words as well. 

Writing:  We will write “One Good Paragraph” on our holiday traditions. 

Spelling: Lesson 9 spelling test will NOT be tested this Friday. This test will be next Friday November 9th.  Packets are due the 9th as well. Go to  https://www.spellingcity.com/users/mrsodonnell007 to practice spelling words from lesson 9. These words are starting to get CHALLENGING! Be sure to encourage your children to study their words every night!

Grammar: We will identify compound subjects in sentences this week.

It’s Spirit Week! 10.22 to 10.26: A Glimpse at Our Week…

This week we are celebrating TEAMWORK in so many awesome ways! Not only will we have a Teamwork Assembly on Tuesday- everyday there is a theme – I hope your children will participate in on the fun! 

Monday: 10/22           Favorite Penn Manor Shirt/jersey – or wear blue/gold 
(district teamwork)

Tuesday: 10/23           “Scrabble” – Attach a letter to your shirt.  Can you find other students and make some robust vocabulary? (Literacy teamwork)

Wednesday:  10/24    PJ Day – Teamwork Makes the DREAM work! (school-wide teamwork)

Thursday:  10/25       Favorite sports jersey (sports teamwork)

Friday:  10/26            Penn Manor DISTRICT WIDE “PINK OUT!” (district teamwork)

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s class this week:

Math: Students will finish Chapter 3 this week. We will take our Ch.1-3 Benchmark on Wednesday and take our Chapter 3 Assessment on Friday. On Monday and Tuesday we will learn how to place a zero in a quotient and how to interpret the remainder to wrap up the chapter. 

ELA: Students will continue to identify theme this week. We will take our Lesson 7 vocab assessment on Wednesday and read “When the Circus Came to Town”. We will begin our Google Site Children Books this week! 

Writing:  Lesson 6 TDAs are due on Wednesday. 

Spelling: Lesson 8 spelling test will be on Friday (last grade for MP 1). Packets are due Friday as well. Go to  https://www.spellingcity.com/users/mrsodonnell007 to practice spelling words from lesson 8. These words are starting to get CHALLENGING! Be sure to encourage your children to study their words every night!

10.15 to 10.19: A Glimpse at our Week…

Remember- Friday 10/19 is an early dismissal day. (1:30 pm)

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s class this week:

Math: Students will continue with our division chapter this week. We will learn how to use compatible numbers to estimate quotients, learn how to solve division problems using the distributive property and partial quotients, divide 4 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers, understand how to place the first digit in a division problem, and solve division problems that result in quotients that have zeros. This week, we will also start a new math fluency program called Spring Math. I am excited to get started with this to work on class wide interventions. 

ELA: Students will continue to identify theme this week. We will take our Lesson 6 comprehension/vocab assessment on Tuesday. We will develop themes by using Google Slides to create digital children’s books. 

Writing: We will be working on 2 column notes and how to use them to complete a text dependent analysis. We will begin our first graded TDA this week. 

Spelling: Lesson 7 spelling test will be on Friday. Packets are due Friday as well. Go to  https://www.spellingcity.com/users/mrsodonnell007 to practice spelling words from lesson 7. These words are starting to get CHALLENGING! Be sure to encourage your children to study their words every night!

Grammar: We will identify subjects in imperative sentences this week. 

TWO SPECIAL EVENTS THIS WEEK! 1.) On Wednesday, PPL will be coming in to do a lesson on how we can help conserve energy. A letter should have gone home with your child a few weeks ago. Your child will be bringing home a “Think Energy” Kit with some pretty neat stuff inside! 2.) On Thursday, we will meet with our Buddy class (Mrs. DeLong’s 2nd graders.) We will be doing a fun fall activity with our younger friends!

10.9 to 10.12: A Glimpse at our Week…

My son, Jack had a great time picking out his pumpkins on our 3 day weekend 🙂 

Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s class this week:

Math: Students will be working within Chapter 3 this week: Division! We will learn how multiplication and division are related, and how to divide with and without remainders this week. We are going to focus on Concrete, Representational, and Abstract (CRA) ways to divide. As always, spiral review will be given out for homework every night and Thursday’s homework will count as a quiz grade.  

ELA: Students will finish up Lesson 5 with a vocab quiz on Wednesday. We will begin Lesson 6 in Story town with a new focus skill. We will learn all about Theme for the next two lessons! This week, we will read “Night at San Juan” this week. 

Writing: We will be working on 2 column notes and how to use them to complete a text dependent analysis.
