Thank you to all the parents that were able to make it to our Reading Fair last week! It was a great success!
Here is what is happening in Mrs. O’Donnell’s class this week…
Math: We will continue and finish Chapter 8 this week. However, we will not have our Chapter 8 test until next week. We will guess and check in order to solve word problems, we will determine the common multiples and the least common multiple of a set of numbers, we will compare fractions by using the least common denominator, and we will use fraction equivalence to write fractions as decimals . On Friday, we will begin our Chapter 8 review.
ELA: We will read “The School Story” (Lesson 16 ) this week. We will continue to work on making inferences (based on our background knowledge and information stated) within stories. We will also work on developing think notes in order to better comprehend what we are reading. This is a wonderful test taking strategy that was introduced in 4th grade with these students.
Social Studies: We will continue with our Government unit this week. We will learn about the three branches of government, Constitutional Articles , and the Bill of Rights. We will have a quiz on Wednesday this week on the 3 branches of government. Study guides will be passed out on Monday.
Spelling: Lesson 17 will be tested on Friday 2/1. Lesson 18 spelling packets will be due Feb 8th.
Grammar: We will identify inappropriate shifts in verb tenses and will identify irregular verbs this week.
*We will have a dentist lesson on Tuesday (taught by a dental hygienist) and a buddy lesson with Mrs. DeLong’s crew on Friday. We will also have our January Shine Time on Wednesday at the end of the day.
