The health and safety of all Penn Manor students, families, and staff is the number one priority for the Penn Manor School District during this impact of Covid-19. Due to this unwavering commitment, we are informing all elementary families that your child’s teacher will be taking inventory of items in your child’s locker and desk. These items will be secured and stored in your child’s school until school resumes in the Fall of 2020. Upon return to our physical buildings, your child will receive his/her property to begin the 2020-2021 school year. If there is an essential item that your child needs prior to the start of the 2020-2021 school year, please contact Mr. Malek at email@example.com.
The Penn Manor tech department has created a fantastic site to help you and your student with questions you may have during remote learning about Google Classroom. Topics include how to complete an assignment in Google Classroom, how to add an image in Classroom, and how you can hold a Google Meet on your phone or tablet.
You can find this resource by either going to the remote learning site, clicking on Tech Tips and then clicking on Google Tips. https://sites.google.com/pennmanor.net/remotelearning/elementary?authuser=0
Or you may go directly to Google Tips. https://sites.google.com/pennmanor.net/remotelearning/tech-tips/google-tips?authuser=0

First, I want to say THANK YOU to all students for their efforts for the first week of completing expected remote learning assignments. I also want to thank parents for all of your support. I know it is not easy to balance our new way of living and I truly appreciate everything you do for your children during this time of uncertainty. Remember- I am here to support and am very flexible. Don’t hesitate to reach out!
Next, I want to remind students that there will be NEW assignments on the remote learning site on Monday April 20th (they will also be uploaded in your google classrooms (ELA, Math, SS, Science). These assignments are NEW learning material. This is where I come in. If you do not understand the learning objectives for any of these assignments in any subject, I am here to help. My office hours will be 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm and I am also available throughout the day. (I check my email very frequently.) As long as a parent is present, I can hold google meetings with individual students who are not understanding the material on an as needed basis)
Just like last week, you will need to complete 2 ELA assignments, 2 Math assignments, 1 Science assignment, and 1 Social Studies assignment. You also should be completing the assignments that are coming from your specialist and sending that directly to them (Email them with questions).
Please complete assignments in YOUR GOOGLE CLASSROOMS instead of emailing me the work moving forward. ALL ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE POSTED IN THESE CLASSROOMS. You can still upload pics and videos in google classrooms. It is helpful that all assignments are in one place in order to keep track of it all on my end. We will also be doing our weekly google meetings through our google classroom starting Thursday April 23rd. More info/instructions to come on that…
Because the 5th grade assignments are not listed day by day like other grade levels, I want to offer to you a daily work schedule. If you follow this- you will have “OFF” from school every Friday 🙂 Please remember this is a SUGGESTED work schedule and is not required to follow. We thought it might be helpful so students and parents do not feel as overwhelmed.
Remember: We are in this together!
As a district we want to provide activities to continue your child’s education, and our expectation is that students will complete the activities to the best of their ability. We also realize that these are stressful times for you and your family. We know that your child completing work at home has its own unique challenges, so we want to partner with you to make the rest of the year as successful as possible. Please know our teachers stand ready to answer any questions and explain any concepts that need further explanation. Each teacher will have office hours, so please reach out if your child is having difficulty with the work and also know that these activities can be completed and turned in as your schedule allows. While we are recording the assignments that our students turn in, your child’s promotion to the next grade will be based on his or her progress during the first three marking periods of school.
Hello 5-O Families!
I had so much fun chatting with you all yesterday through Google Meet. Moving forward- we will be connecting in that way every Thursday at 2 pm. On Wednesdays, I will send out an invite with a few talking points/talking prompts that we will be using to guide our discussions. Make sure to come prepared to share! (Most times, these talking points will be creative and fun!) The purpose of these “meetings” is to stay connected as a class. You all brought me so much JOY yesterday when I got to hear and see all of you!
Starting Monday April 13th, the activities on the Penn Manor Remote Learning Website are now expected and will be marked in Sapphire. This means they are not optional any more . You will not be getting a percentage grade for these assignments, however you will be getting feedback and an “R” will be marked in Sapphire upon “receipt” of the activities. Each week you will have 2 activities to complete in Math, 2 activities to complete in ELA, 1 activity for Science, and 1 activity for Social Studies. Right now these activities will still be REVIEW. However we will be moving on to new material since we will not be back in the classroom this year. I am available to answer questions or hold small learning groups through google meet to go over new material as needed. (I can hold 1:1 meetings as long as a parent is present). Please keep turning in work through email. Here is the website link to access the activities:
Starting Monday April 13th, I will have OFFICE HOURS from 1:30 to 2:30 pm Monday- Friday. What does this mean? This means you can expect me to be on my laptop ready to get back to you promptly during this hour. I am here to answer all questions you have. If you email me any other time during the day, I will still email you back within the school day (8:50 am – 3:45 pm) it just won’t be RIGHT AWAY.
Finally, please remember…
This is a new experience for all of us and we will endure this new way of learning together. Please know I am here for you. Stay well and stay positive boys and girls. Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a wonderful weekend!
Hello 5-O! I will be setting up a Google Meet with my students for Thursday, April 9th at 2 pm. THIS IS OPTIONAL! I am hoping many are able to hop on to say hello and for me to teach them how to use Google Meet as we move forward with our virtual learning plan. I made a quick PDF as a guide on how to attend their first Google Meeting and the “Rules” to follow. I tried to make it as simple as possible. I will be sending an “invite” through email sometime tomorrow. Please let me know if you have questions!
…your teachers miss you! We decided to created a challenge just for you…click on this link to check out our “3, 2, 1 Challenge” We can’t wait to see YOURS! I have created a Google Classroom Assignment in ELA Google Classroom– you can submit your projects there. (You can also email it to me.)
