Looking Back…Looking Forward…

Reading A & B- Looking Back– We finished our first class novel, Ghost. We focused on identifying the elements of fiction and analyzing them throughout the book. The students loved the book and we had some great discussion. Looking Forward- We will have our unit 1 assessment this week and then begin a non-fiction unit focusing on text features and structures. *Please continue to encourage your child to be reading for at least 15 minutes each evening. This is their daily reading homework.

Science- Looking Back- We have experimented and discussed all the measurable aspects of air and are finishing up learning what causes wind and the different wind patterns of the earth. Looking Forward- We will finish discussing wind and explore weather forecasting. We finish our earth science unit with a quick look at the solar system. * Students will have a quiz on wind next week. They have a note page that they should be studying. Quizlet is also a great, fun way to review. All science units are available in Quizlet.

Writing- Looking Back- Students did a great job writing fall poetry. They also wrote a friendly letter to me which is due tomorrow (Wednesday)and I am looking forward to getting to know more about each student as I read their letter to me. Looking Forward- Students will continue to practice grammar and writing skills through review of our weekly mentor sentences. We will briefly review nouns, verbs, and adjectives before creating informational websites on a US state of each student’s choice. Their website will demonstrate their knowledge of the parts of speech, text features from reading, and informational writing skills.
