Join us for an Extra Give Happy Hour Nov. 18

Printspring-house-2

Penn Manor Education Foundation is participating in the Extraordinary Give, a 24-hour online fundraising marathon, on Friday, November 18.

Last year, our generous donors contributed more than $6,700 to the Foundation during this day-long event – an increase of $1,600 over our inaugural year!

This year, we will be holding an Extra Give Happy Hour at Spring House Brewing, 209 Hazel St., Lancaster, from 5 to 7 p.m. November 18. Participants can make a donation on the spot while enjoying some great locally crafted beer and food.

A $25 contribution can fund library materials to inspire young learners; a $100 gift can help fund a Strong & Healthy Families grant; a $500 gift can pay for a scholarship for a graduating Penn Manor senior.

In addition to accepting donations from individuals, PMEF will be eligible for a share of $300,000 in incentive prizes offered to participating Extra Give organizations.

So join the fun November 18 and help make a difference in our community by participating in the 2016 Extraordinary Give!

Penn Manor Education Foundation’s annual fundraising dinner generated a tremendous amount of support from participants and sponsors.

The 15th annual event, held Sept. 18 at the Revere Tavern, raised a record $19,680!

Many thanks to the 200 who attended, along with the individuals and businesses that donated auction and raffle items. Included were tickets to Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, Hershey Bears and Penn State games, as well as original artwork, driving lessons, home-cooked dinners, and a week-long stay in a Mt. Gretna vacation home.

A special thank you goes out to Don Martin, who has organized the event for the past 15 years.

Stay tuned for details on next year’s dinner.

2016-2017 Venture Grant application now online

Penn Manor Education Foundation is switching to an online Venture Grant application process and a single application cycle for the 2016-2017 year.

The online application is available here.

Teachers and other school personnel applying for grants should take note of the following:

  • There is only ONE grant cycle this year. PMEF will not be soliciting projects in the spring, so this is your sole opportunity to submit requests this year. If your project is approved, the funding must be used by June 30, 2018.
  • The form cannot be saved if it is partially completed, so please be prepared to complete the form in one sitting. You may want to write your narrative in a separate document and “cut and paste” it into the online form when you are ready to submit.
  • Supporting documents, such as price and equipment lists, may be uploaded with your application. However, you may not upload your application narrative in the uploads section.
  • The form must be filled out online; no paper applications will be accepted. All fields must be completed.
  • This is our first attempt at this new application process, so please bear with us, as we may have to tweak things as we go along. Please share feedback, especially the positive kind.

Thank you, teachers, for all your do to improve educational opportunities for Penn Manor students!

PMEF executive director Anne Kinderwater Carroll address staff at Opening Day 2016.

PMEF executive director Anne Kinderwater Carroll address staff at Opening Day 2016.

Penn Manor staff members have been extremely generous in supporting the Education Foundation through automatic payroll deductions.

Last year, district staff contributed more than $18,000 to support PMEF scholarships, venture grants and other programs.

This year’s campaign is now under way. We have a new partner, Copper Hill Public House Restaurant, which has donated $10 gift cards for anyone who pledges $80 or more. Those who contribute $100 or more are eligible for a drawing for a $100 Copper Hill gift certificate.

And anyone who gives $40 or more gets a collectible PMEF pen/stylus.

A printable contribution form is available here. Forms also are available on the CometNet site under “forms” and “Education Foundation.” Staff may opt for the payroll deduction or make a one-time monetary contribution (cash or checks).

Forms are due back to Brian Wallace in the district office no later than Sept. 7.

Thanks so much for your support!

Thanks to our generous contributors, Penn Manor Education Foundation was able to award more than $60,000 in scholarships and other awards to 65 deserving Penn Manor graduates this year!

This is the biggest total in the Foundation’s history, and we couldn’t have done it without the generous support of community members.

If you would like to establish a scholarship to honor a loved one, teacher or other individual, please contact PMEF Executive Director Anne Kinderwater Carroll at akc.pmef@gmail.com.

Charity Golf Scramble raises a record $9,900

Penn Manor Education Foundation’s 10th annual Charity Golf Scramble was an unqualified success, raising a record $9,900 for the organization.

The weather was perfect as 120 golfers enjoyed a barbecue lunch, a rousing round of golf, snacks and beverages throughout the day and a beef-and-chicken dinner. The outing was held June 14, 2016, at Meadia Heights Country Club.

In addition to individual supporters, 36 businesses contributed through sponsorships, participation and/or raffle prize donations. More than 70 raffle items were given away, thanks to the generosity of businesses and individuals.

The total raised for PMEF was the most ever in the 10-year history of the outing, an annual tradition marking the end of the school year.

A heartfelt “thank you” to all our participants and to host Meadia Heights.

Don’t miss this year’s event, scheduled for June 13!

Great turnout for PMEF Retiree Breakfast

It was great to see so many familiar faces at the Foundation’s Retiree Breakfast, held Tuesday, May 3, in the Penn Manor High School cafeteria.

Attendees enjoyed performances by the Manor Singers and Penn Manor Jazz Band and Small Ensemble — using instruments purchased with PMEF Venture Grants.

Students in Mindy Rottmund’s Advanced Foods Class prepared the delicious breakfast, which was served by the cafeteria staff. Table centerpieces were created by Diane Glock-Cornman’s Floriculture Class.

Presenters updated the crowd on Foundation programs and a new initiative, Strong & Healthy Families, which will provide assistance to economically disadvantaged Penn Manor students and families. More details on the program will be released in the coming months.

Thanks to all who participated/attended!

Many thanks to the parents, teachers, students and staff who helped make the recent Spotlight Writers’ Cafe a success at Manor Middle School.

The event gave aspiring writers a showcase to read their work aloud. Special guest Kara Newhouse, education reporter for LNP, talked about the writing process and careers, and student musicians provided entertainment.

The Cafe was made possible with a grant from Penn Manor Education Foundation.
