Near Doubles and short u sound

In math we discussed another adding strategy: near doubles. The student first looked at the smaller number and thought of the doubles fact. We discussed how it would be 1 more. We watched this utube and did lots of practice with our math cubes to understand this concept.

The class also received their new spelling words. We sorted the words that had the short u sound and did not have our short u sound. We also moved to Jack Hartman’s video and blended sounds to create short u words.

Finally the students discussed what we are thankful for. We discussed how we should be thankful for what we HAVE, NOT want we want! We wrote things we are thankful for at school and home in our turkey book. I am certainly thankful for all my students and parents!
