Wow! So on Friday, I was really trying to be positive, and yet proactive, in hopes that would ensure we’d be back in our classroom on Monday. That didn’t work! When I left school on Friday, things were still unsure but we were told we were planning for school as usual for Monday. By 5 o’clock, we wouldn’t return for the next two weeks. I’m still trying to process what that looks like from a teacher perspective as well as a parent perspective.
I understand there may be questions surrounding any expectation for students to complete work/assignments during the two-week closure. At this point, I will hold off on communicating anything specific until I receive more information about any district plans. We are anticipating more communication from administration, as the week gets underway. Please understand we are doing our best to keep you informed, but we are all working through this rapidly changing situation, together.
In the meantime, I would recommend students take the opportunity to complete the TDA we were working on Friday, for Nothing Ever Happens on 90th Street. This was something we discussed as a possibility if we were not in the classroom on Monday. I will post an assignment for students type and submit into google classroom later this afternoon/tomorrow morning. Rough drafts should be worked through first- no need to type those.
Also, I suggest students read and possibly spend time on web-based learning sites we often use (i.e. Prodigy, Khan Academy, Fog Stone Isle, Newsela, BrainPoP, Discovery Education, and CS First – Scratch ).
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. I will do my best to assist in any way that I can. Thank you so much for your patience! Stay healthy.
