Penn Manor Spectator Guidelines for Cross Country

Hello Penn Manor Jr. High Cross Country families,

Here are the specific guidelines for meets hosted by Penn Manor Cross Country:

Other notes:

The team had a tremendous interval workout today! The boys and girls stayed focused and challenged themselves throughout the entire practice and we are counting down the days until our first meet next Friday!

Athletes will receive their team uniform in the coming days.

Your child will also be given a rope, to use during stretching, for the remainder of the season. They will be responsible for bringing it back and forth to practice. Students may not share ropes and they will be collected at the end of the season. If a rope is accidentally left at home, we can easily substitute exercises.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

Schedule for Week of 9/7

Hello Penn Manor Jr. High Cross Country families,

Although we have been having practices for quite some time, we are finally heading into our official season! Here is the schedule for the week ahead along with one more update on the Activity buses and some information regarding spikes (racing shoes).

Monday, 9/7, NO SCHOOL, practice 8:30-10:00

Tuesday, 9/8, practice 3:00-4:45

FIRST OFFICIAL DAY OF PRACTICE: ATHLETES MUST TURN IN PIAA PHYSICAL FORM, SIGNED CODE OF CONDUCT, DRUG CONSENT FORM (MANDATORY FOR 9TH GRADERS/VOLUNTARY FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADERS)

Wednesday, 9/9, practice 3:00-4:45

Thursday, 9/10, practice 3:00-4:45

Friday, 9/11, practice 3:00-4:45

Update on Activity buses: In anticipation of additional athletes for Junior High sports, there will be another Activity bus at Marticville. I don’t know the number, so if Bus 349 were to be full, students just need to make sure they are getting on the other Activity bus. Once at the high school, the athletes will stay on the bus until all of the regular buses have left and then get on Bus 167, as usual, to be transported to Manor Middle School.

Spikes: Cross country racing shoes (distance spikes), can be advantageous to runners on race day because they provide better traction on grass and dirt courses. These are not required, but worth the investment if your child is a returning runner or plans to stay involved in the sport for seasons to come. I showed the team a pair of spikes on Friday so they could make a connection with what I was talking about. If you have any questions about spikes, please email me at andrea.kramer@pennmanor.net as I know I did not get to discuss this in more detail at our parent meeting! Below is an example of what a cross country (or distance) spike would look like. They can be found at Inside Track, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and many other running stores and websites.

Meet Change

Hello Penn Manor Jr. High Cross Country families,

There has been a schedule change for our last home meet of the season. The original date was for October 12th, which is Columbus Day. Since there is no school that day or transportation, our meet has been moved to Wednesday, October 14th. Since all Penn Manor students will be doing remote learning from home, the Activity bus will be available that day. Typically the bus would pick up Marticville students at 3:00 pm. Since we need to get the athletes over a little earlier, it will pick them up at 2:30 pm.

I will send out more information about meets as we get closer to that time. For now, I wanted to make you aware of the schedule change to help with planning. I know things have changed quite a bit since the beginning of the season, so please let me know if you have any questions.

REMINDER: THERE IS NO PRACTICE TOMORROW DUE TO THE EARLY DISMISSAL.

Thank you and GO COMETS!

Activity Bus Information: Students at Marticville will get on Bus 349 at the end of the day (2:30). If this is not your day to be in school, you may still ride the bus. Keep in mind this bus will drop some athletes off at Comet Field before it heads over to the High School. Once you are at the High School, get off Bus 349 and hop onto Bus 167. All 9th graders should look for Bus 167 near the “Drug Free Zone” sign at the corner of the one way exit out of the high school near the cafeteria.

If there are any schedule changes because of inclement weather, I will send a quick update on the Remind App and students will be notified at school.

As always, if you have any questions, please contact me at andrea.kramer@pennmanor.net

Good luck to all as we begin a new school year!

Hello Penn Manor Jr. High Cross Country families,

For those who are homeschooling their children this year, please review the link for “Home/Cyber/Charter School Guidelines at the top of the blog for the necessary steps to enroll your child, which will allow them to be eligible to participate in our athletics program. Please contact me if you need guidance in the process and I will put you in touch with one of our other home school parents.

One additional point is in regards to inhalers. Please send a doctor’s note with your child that indicates the need to use them at practice and meets.

The Remind app

Hello Penn Manor Jr. High Cross Country families,

Last year, we used the Remind app as a way to quickly notify our families of new information. For example, when we are headed home from an away meet, I will send a message to let you know when to expect us back at Manor Middle School or if practice needs to be cancelled because of bad weather, you will receive a message on your phone.

I am attaching the sign up information for new users. I will send a test message later in the day. This is optional and I will continue to use the Blog as the main communication to share information, but Remind works well for quick announcements.

Thank you and please let me know if you have any questions at andrea.kramer@pennmanor.net
