We had wonderful time on our field trip. Thank you, PTO. Wind and bubbles made for a fun afternoon on Wednesday. On Thursday, the children completed their Junior Achievement lessons. Miss Goss was a great JA instructor!
The children worked with a partner to create a short story that included a problem and solution. Many of the children incorporated our vocabulary words into their stories too. They had a wonderful time bringing their stories to life through the use of technology.
You can view the children’s work on the link below.
We had a great day enjoying our anthology story in reading. Keep an eye out for these characters!
On Monday December 10th from 6:00-7:00, LeTort will host a Holiday Concert featuring our band, chorus, orchestra, and SECOND GRADE! Students should come to our classroom at 5:50. Parents can leave their child with me and go into the cafeteria to find a seat. We’ll escort the children into the concert during their featured time. Following the Holiday Concert, please come promptly to the classroom to pick up your child. The children are invited to dress in festive holiday attire.
I’m looking forward to this magical, musical night.
Tomorrow we will celebrate our hard work with a pajama day. Students may come dressed in their cozy PJs.
I have sent home a Scholastic Book order today. If you are interested, please return your form and check to school by Monday. Orders may be submitted online as well. Please let me know if you order items online.
Have a wonderful evening!
Today the children will bring home their reading assessment for Lesson 2. Please sign and return them to school tomorrow. Most weeks, I will send home the Reading Anthology on Wednesday evenings for a reread of the weekly story. This week the children will be working with Lesson 3. Thanks for all your support at home.
It has been an exciting week! Look at what we walked into each day. Each of our new butterflies received a name and was released into the world. The excitement and energy was delightful. Enjoy some of the pictures of our week. I hope the children enjoyed it as much as I did. Have a great weekend.
The chrysalis have formed, and we are anxiously waiting on our monarch butterflies to arrive. Stay tuned for updates.
I must apologize. I tried to squeeze in a little too much, and realize that I did not send home the math homework. So no math homework tonight:)
Please sign and return reading tests that were sent home today. This is my way to assure that you see your child’s progress. I will revisit difficult concepts with the children that need help. I ask this to be done with each reading assessment and the chapter tests in math. Thank you for all your help.
Enjoy your evening!
The planner page is my primary way of communicating with parents. The planner will let you know what our specials are as well as spelling tests and important events. We will begin using the planner page this week. Please initial the planner each evening for you child.
Students will be asked to read each night their assigned reading during guided reading. The purpose of the reread is to build fluency and strengthen comprehension. Reading homework is assigned from me nightly Monday-Thursday. The other days, we leave available for self selected reading. Often at the start of school, the children may bring home a book that they have read in the past. That is okay and will allow me to select a level that best meets your child’s need. Please don’t worry if this would happen.
Most nights, the children will have math homework. I only assign homework Monday- Thursday. Please look over your child’s work and catch errors if you see them. Working together will assist us in meeting our goal to optimize your child’s learning potential. If in some instances, I don’t feel the children are ready for the homework to be sent home. I will have the children write “none” next to the math box. I will reach out to you if there is ever a homework concern.

Please block out on your calendar our Letort Back to School Night. It is scheduled for Wednesday, August 29th from 4:00-6:00 pm. It is an open house format, so you can stop by any time during the two hour block. Our new art teacher, Miss Anderson, will be in her classroom from 4:30-5:30 on that evening. Please remember to stop by and say hello.
An open house format allows you some flexibility with your schedule and the option to spend as much time as you need in your child’s classroom. Please be mindful that all parents want to meet the teacher and say hello during their visit. Specific conversations about kids or curriculum would be better served by setting up an appointment with the teacher so they can individualize the conversation with you. Thank you for understanding and we look forward to your visit next week.
