January Information

I know that it may be difficult to think about January right now with the Holidays around the corner, but I would like to share some information about scheduling and assessments after break.

When we return in January, I will not be meeting with my groups for about 2 weeks.  Instead, the Academic Support Team will be administering school wide mid-year reading assessments.  I will continue to send home reading bags for kindergarten students and first grade students.

These assessments include:

Kindergarten Assessments- Sight words (The words tested are found on this blog.), letter names, letter sounds, first sound in words when asked orally – (“What is the first sound in the word man?” /m/) segmenting sounds in words when asked orally –  (What are all the sounds in the word cat? /c/ /a/ /t/) and an assessment to determine overall reading level.

First Grade – Sight words (The words tested are found on this blog.), blending of letter sounds with a consonant, vowel, and consonant to create a pretend word (for example, “mip”), reading passages at the first grade level and an assessment to determine overall reading level.

Second Grade – Sight words (The words tested are found on this blog.), reading passages (oral reading and comprehension) at the second grade level and an assessment to determine overall reading level.
