As a way to promote career exploration and awareness with our elementary students, Penn Manor elementary schools are planning a special day across the district.

On Friday, February 24, 2023, students will be invited to wear clothing that represents a career they may be interested in exploring as an adult. For example, your child may come dressed as a construction worker, a doctor, a teacher, etc. Please make sure that your child’s clothing is appropriate for a day of learning and would not distract other students in his/her classroom. As an added component to Kids at Work Day, teachers and staff will be wearing their college, military, trade-school, or past/present career attire.

Our hope is that Kids at Work Day will be a great way to start conversations at home and at school about different types of careers, why someone chooses a career, and what kind of training/schooling is needed to get started in a particular career.  To help facilitate discussion at home regarding career development, please refer to the “additional resources” at the end of this post for some fun, age-appropriate career development activities.

At Penn Manor High School, about seventy percent of our students attend two-year or four-year colleges. Forty-eight percent go to four-year colleges, and twenty-two percent go to two-year colleges. About seven percent of our students go directly into the military, and about ten percent go on to one-year certificate or training programs. Fifteen percent go directly into the workforce. About twenty-two percent attend the CTC each year to gain a year of Technical Education during their senior year of high school to study fields such as: Residential Carpentry; Heavy Equipment Operator; Protective Services; Sports Medicine; Medical Assisting; Diesel Mechanics; Automotive Mechanics; Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning; Large Animal Production; Dental Assisting; Plumbing; and much more.

The Penn Manor Elementary School Counselors would like to thank you in advance for your support for Kids at Work Day. If you have any questions, please contact your school’s counselor.

Sincerely,

The Elementary School Counselors
