Weekly Reminders – Week of September 9th

It’s our first full week of school and we couldn’t be more excited to get into a normal routine. The fourth graders are adjusting nicely to being the BIG kids in the school. We are very proud of their maturity and progress so far this year.

NEW THIS WEEK: The “Power Log” is the monthly calendar located in your child’s planner. You can find it on page 19 for the month of September. You will notice this week, they began recording where they landed on the clip chart at the end of each day. In addition, your child’s homeroom teacher will sign this page if a student did not complete a homework assignment for that week. If you don’t see a note from us on page 19, that means your child handed in all his/her homework for that week! Each weekend, it’s the students’ responsibility to get this page signed by an adult. This week, please sign in the box for September 14th or September 15th to verify that you saw the planner.

Here’s a look at our week:

Social Studies: Students will take their World Map quiz this week. 4G will take the quiz tomorrow, Wednesday. 4S will take the quiz on Thursday. **Most students know their address and their phone number, but some still need a little practice. Feel free to check to see if they know it for their quiz!

Science: We are beginning our Biology unit this week.

Math: On Monday, we began Chapter 2 Adding and Subtracting Whole Numbers. Logins for our online Math resources will be coming home soon. The My Math resource will allow you to access the student workbook online as well as many other beneficial tools to help your students practice.

Reading: Our super readers are working to identify story elements when reading a story. Ask them to recite the Story Elements chant to you (Hint: It starts with “In a story, there will always be…”). Good readers pay attention to these story elements to better understand what they are reading.

Spelling: Lesson 1 spelling tests were either in your child’s Weekly Work Envelope last week or will be coming home this Friday. On Monday, we began Lesson 2. Test is on Friday. If your child ever forgets their list at school, you can always find each list on the blog under the “Spelling” tab.

Writing: We continued to review the 4 types of sentences – declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory. We watched this youtube video to help us remember the difference. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxcZifP8wRI

Enjoy your week! 🙂 Don’t forget to check your child’s Weekly Work Envelope (WWE), empty it out, and sign the outside. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you have. We thank you for your constant support!
