Week of February 18-February 21

Monday: No School

Library Books: Our library book schedule has been changing on a weekly basis. Thank you for your patience with this. Please keep your child’s library book in his or her backpack. If your child forgot his or her book last week, he or she may return it next time.

Writing: I hope you enjoyed the book your child wrote last week. This week the students will be writing about their family. On Tuesday, they will complete the sentence, “My family is from ________.” Please talk to your child about where you lived as a child.

Food Permission Paper: I am going to send home a food permission form. For our class reward for our “smile graph,” we are going to build shapes will small marshmallows and toothpicks. Please do not tell your child. This is a surprise activity.

Reading Group Folders and Book Bags: Please return your child’s reading folder or “book bag” to school every day in his or her backpack. I collect the “book bags” on Friday to prepare them for the next week.

Week of February 10-February 14

Newsletter: February newsletter will be sent home Monday. A reminder for how to do Valentine cards will be on the back of the newsletter.

Library Books: The AM class will go to the library on Monday. The PM class will not check out a new book this week.

Sight Words: Thank you for helping your child practice his or her sight words. Thank you for helping by cutting out the words and putting them in a “baggie.” After you practice the words with your child, please put the “baggie” in your child’s yellow home folder.

Reading Group Folders and Book Bags: Please return your child’s reading folder or”book bag” to school every day in his or her backpack.

Valentine’s Day Card Exchange: The students will be able to give out Valentine’s cards on Friday. Students may begin to bring in their cards on Thursday. This is an optional activity.

Field Trip: We will be going to the Hands-On House. The AM field trip will be on Friday, April 24. The PM field trip will on be Friday, May 8. Parents who have completed their clearances are welcome to join us.

Sweet Heart Dance

Just a reminder from our PTO about the Sweetheart Dance this Saturday from 6-7:30.

The dance is not held at the school, it is held at Manor Church.

If you ordered a corsage, it will be available at the door. 

If you forgot to order your tickets, they can also be purchased at the door for $25 a family. (Includes 1 chaperone and all CM girls in that household) 

Week of February 3- February 7

Friday, February 7: AM class has an early dismissal. The PM class does not attend on Friday.

Valentine’s Information: The students will bring home a valentine’s paper tomorrow in their yellow home folders.

Reading Groups: The students will begin reading groups this week. Please begin to check your child’s backpack for a reading group folder or reading group bag.

Week of January 27- January 31


Writing: The letters this week are “q” and “z.” After this week, the students will have learned to write all of the lower-case letters.  The students are starting to do writing journals. So each day they are writing words and sentences.

Reading: The students will begin reading groups on Wednesday, January 29. Next week, February 3 – February 7, the students will start bringing home books and other reading materials from their reading groups to work on at home.

Monday: The students will bring home report cards.

Tuesday: The students will bring home information about how to “Earn their Rainbow Colors” by learning sight words.

Thursday and Friday: We will celebrate attending school 100 days. We will do some math and craft activities as we celebrate. The students will even learn how to use a hundred chart (chart with number 0 to 100).

Library Books: The PM class will go to the library on Thursday.

Week of January 21-24

Monday:  No school 

Letter: The letter this week is “x.”  

Writing: The students are starting to do writing journals. So each day they are writing words and sentences.

Reading: The students will be beginning reading groups soon. This week as you read to your child, please help him or her point to the words as you read.

Library Books: The PM class will go to the library on Thursday.

Friday: Early Dismissal for the PM class. The AM class does not attend.

Thank you: We did a special activity last Friday to celebrate our class smile graph. The children were so kind and appreciate to me. Thank you for teaching your children to be appreciative.

Week of January 13-January 17

Monday:  No school for students.  In-service day for teachers.

Letter: The letter this week is “y.”  

Math: The students are learning to “take apart” numbers this week. This is the beginning of learning the concept of subtraction.

Writing: The students will be practicing to write all of the letters we have learned this year.

Library Books: The AM class will go to the library on Thursday.

Week of January 6-January 10


Letter:
We will be learning about the letter “w” this week. Thank you for helping your child practice the letters we have learned this year.

Math: The students are learning to add numbers. This is a fun chapter!

Reading: I will be ready fairy tale stories this week. This students will be doing activities related to each story.

Thursday: I will be attending a reading in-service on Thursday. The students will have a substitute. Mrs. Albright, teaching assistant, will also be helping the students. The students will be doing several activities related to the story, The Mitten.

Week of January 2-January 3

Happy New Year!

Thursday: We will be learning the letter “v,” and beginning chapter 4 in math. January newsletters will be sent home.

Friday: Students will bring home their work folders. I hope you enjoy looking at the papers with your child. Please return the empty folders to school.

Gingerbread Art Activity

Parents,

Thank you for helping with our gingerbread art day. The students are anxious to bring home their artwork. They will bring them home Thursday or Friday. Just a reminder the AM class attends on Friday. The PM class does not attend Friday. Another reminder the AM class has library tomorrow, Wednesday.
