We’re Celebrating Read Across America Week

You know you’re a first grade teacher when you receive a note on your desk that says “your a grt tchr!”  These kids are melting my heart!  I must have the best job in the world!  Thanks for raising such neat kids!

Next week we will be celebrating ‘Read Across America’ week.

Sunday:  The fun begins at the Penn Manor High School East Gym from 2-4 PM.  This is a fun, free, event to celebrate everything Dr. Seuss.  There will be games, crafts, stories, snacks, and prize drawings.

Each school day our class will have a special theme day related to Dr. Seuss and one of his books:

Monday:  Wear your favorite hat to school because we’ll be reading The Cat in the Hat.

Tuesday:  Wear your crazy/funky/or mismatched socks because we’ll be reading Fox in Socks.

Wednesday:  Wear your wackiest clothing combinations because we will be reading Wacky Wednesday!

Thursday: We’ll be reading I Wish That I Had Duck Feet.   No worries, I’ll be providing the duck feet!

Friday:  Bring your favorite Dr. Seuss book to school for DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time.  We’ll be ending our fun week by reading Green Eggs and Ham and serving up some – wait for it – Green Eggs and Ham, of course!

Snow Make Up Day

Since we got our 4 day weekend after all, school will now be in session on Monday, March 23, 2015.

Tomorrow is Day 6.  We will have a spelling test, and we’ll also begin a new chapter in Math on graphing.  Please sign and return the chapter 6 Math test that came home on Friday.

I just opened our last box of tissues.  If you have a box that you can spare, feel free to send it in to school!  We’ll also need some band aides this week.  Any size, shape, or color will due just fine!  Please send them to school by Friday.

We made a Valentine book all about love.  Look for it to come home for your family to read over the next few weeks.  We would love for you to write a comment in the back of the book!

Thank you for practicing Math facts at home!  The children are receiving a prize when they reach levels 5, 10, 15, and 20!  I love their motivation to learn their addition and subtraction facts!

Please continue to send in any Box Tops that you find on food boxes, tissues etc… We’re off to a good start, and the PTO appreciates your participation in this easy fundraiser!  We’ll be collecting Box Tops for the remainder of February.

Yearbooks can be ordered until Friday, February 20th.  This is also the deadline to turn in all Gertrude Hawk candy orders.  Thanks for your support of the Eshleman PTO!

Valentine Party

We will be exchanging Valentines on Friday, February 13.   If you child would like to give Valentines to the class, just a reminder that we have 26 friends in our room.  If you need a new Valentine list, let me know and I’ll send a new one home.

Book orders are due on Thursday, February 12.  Thanks so much to each one of  you who places an order.  The kids love the free books we earn for our classroom!

We have no school on Monday, February 16th.  Enjoy this extra time with your children.

We will be having a spelling test when we return to school on Tuesday, February 17.  Thanks for practicing the words at home!

Enjoy your long weekend!

We’re 100 days smarter!

We had a fun 100 day celebration today!  The kids who dressed up looked so cute!  I’ll post pictures of our day on the Shutterfly share sight that I created for our room.  During conferences in the fall, many of you signed up to be “invited” to join the sight (it’s private).  If you missed the sign up sheet and would like to be invited to view our class pictures, just send me an email, and  I’ll invite you!  I have hundreds of pictures on there for all of you to enjoy!

Tomorrow I’ll be sending home report cards.  Please sign the brown envelope and send it back to school along with the comment sheet.  The report card is yours to keep, as well as any other papers inside.

Friday will be a 1:30 elementary early dismissal day.

We will have a Valentine exchange on Friday, February 13.  If you would like your son/daughter to exchange valentines with the other friends in our class, please be sure to send your child to school with  a Valentine for all 26 students in our room.  Thanks!

Yearbook orders are due on Friday, February 13.

Book orders are due on Thursday, February 12th.  You may order on line using our classroom code NCC84, or send your order and payment to school.  Checks should be made payable to Scholastic.

We are collecting Boxtops to raise money for our school.  Please send all trimmed boxtops to school during the month of February.  Did you see the new playground equipment the PTO purchased for the students at Eshleman?  They can’t wait for the snow to melt so they can go outside to use it!

Monday, February 16 – No school, President’s Day.

If your child has a summer birthday and would like to celebrate it at school, please let me know about a week in advance of the date you are choosing to celebrate.  The class makes the birthday boy/girl a special book, and we need some time to get it made before the big day.

We will be using white lunch bags, doilies, and candy hearts (big and small) during our Valentine’s Day party.  We’re also looking for donations of red finger jello treats, and red juice.  If you would like to donate anything for our class to use at the party, please feel free to email me.  Thanks so much!

Buttons wanted…

Do you have any buttons that you don’t need anymore?  I’m looking for buttons of all shapes, colors, and sizes.  Feel free to send them in to school if you have any to spare.  Thanks so much for helping with my donation requests!  First graders like having items to sort, touch, count, add, classify, and glue!
