Fall Fest

Tomorrow is our first grade fall fest.  Some of our stations will be outside.  Please be sure to send your child to school wearing warm clothing and coats for outside activities.

Tomorrow is also Drop Everything and Read Day.  Please send the kids to school with a few good books they would enjoy reading, as well as a flashlight if you have one at home.  We will be turning off the lights as we read and using our flashlights to see the words!  It will be so much fun!

Thank to everyone who donated supplies for our fall festival!  Thank you so much!

Flashlight Friday

On Friday Eshleman Elementary School will be hosting ‘Drop Everything And Read.’  We will be making reading extra fun by turning off our classroom lights and reading with a flashlight!  Please be sure to send your child to school with a flashlight (labeled with their name) and a few good books to read!  We are very excited about this fun reading adventure!

A few reminders

This week Eshleman students will be thinking about how they can focus on healthy habits and choices, and pledging to be drug free.  Send your child to school each day this week dressed according to our themes as we pledge to say NO to drugs!

Monday – RED-dy, set, go!  Wear red

Tuesday – TEAM up against drugs – wear a favorite team shirt

Wednesday – Color my world drug free, wear BRIGHT colors

Thursday – Being drug free is no sweat, wear SWEATS

Friday – I’m a “JEAN”-ius.  I’m drug free,  wear jeans

We will be having our fall fest on Friday, October 30.  Thanks to all of you who signed up to help at the fall fest or donate supplies.  If you signed up to donate supplies, please send them to school on Wednesday.  If you signed up to help, I will be contacting you to let you know the details about when to arrive as well as what you will be doing at your station.

Be a Part of Our First Grade Fall Fest

On Friday, October 30th, we will be joining Mr. Heiney’s class for the annual First Grade Fall Fest.  We will celebrate the fall season with a variety of  activities from  1:00-3:15 Friday afternoon.  We are looking for volunteers to help make this a success, whether it be donating time or supplies.  I will be in touch closer to the date with an arrival time for parent helpers.

During our Fall Fest Eshleman will be hosting DEAR time.  Parent volunteers are encouraged to bring a favorite book (and a flashlight – we’ll let you know why!) so they are able to Drop Everything And Read with the rest of the school!  It is going to be a fun afternoon!

A few reminders –

Friday, October 16

  • October book orders are due.  Order on line using our class code, or you may send a check along with your order (made payable to Scholastic).
  • Box Tops are due.  Please send them to school to help support our PTO.  Thank you!
  • We have gym class.  Send the kids to school wearing their sneakers.

Mr. Heiney and I are planning to have a fall festival for the 1st graders on Friday, October 30.  We will need parent helpers as well as some donations.  More information will be sent home soon.

Thanks for helping the kids log into First in Math from home.  The more we practice our Math facts, the better we get!

Eshleman is having their first Box Top collection on Friday, October 16.  If you have any Box Tops from cake mixes, toilet paper etc…, please send them in to school by Friday.  Our PTO is able to redeem the Box Tops for cash, which can be used to pay for assemblies, books, field trips and supplies for our students at Eshleman.  Thanks so much!

Class Reward – Pajama Day!

We have earned all of the parts to our Mrs. Potato Head doll for working together and being good friends!  The kids voted, and the class reward they chose is to wear their pajamas to school!  We are making Thursday, October 8 pajama day in 1-T!  Please send your child to school wearing school appropriate PJ’s on Thursday.  The kids should wear sneakers to school but they may bring slippers to change into!  Congratulations 1-T!

First In Math CHALLENGE!

We have been working with our 5th grade buddies to learn our way around the First In Math website.  I’m so proud of the kids for using their free time at home to practice their math facts!  The more they practice, the more stickers they earn, and of course the faster they will learn their Math facts!  The student who earns the most stickers each night at home is our “Player of the Day.”  This person gets to wear a special Math necklace at school!  The student who earns the most stickers for the week will be awarded a special Math certificate from me for being the “Player of the Week!”

It seems that Mr. Heiney’s class has noticed all of the stickers we have been earning too.  In fact, they have challenged us to see which class can earn the most stickers by Friday!  My mathematicians are very excited to accept this challenge!  Log into First In Math and get adding!  Thanks so much!

We took our chapter 1 math test today and the kids did GREAT!  I’m so proud of each and every one of your students.  I will send the test home on Monday for your review.  Please sign and return the test for my files.  Thanks!

Pizza Hut reading logs came home this week.  Please initial the reading log each night that you read with your child – either you reading to your child, or your child reading to you!  Both are fine!  The time you spend practicing books from your son/daughter’s red reading folder counts too.  🙂  Keep the reading log at home until the end of each month.  When you return it I will give your student a certificate for a free personal pan pizza!  YUM!

Looking Ahead –

10/5 – We will begin Chapter 2 in Math – Subtraction!

10/8 – Spelling test 4

10/9 – New spelling words come home

10/12 – Columbus Day, No School

10/23 – In-service for teachers, No School for Students

Our class is on a roll with First In Math!  We have been practicing “Fact Dash” with our 5th grade buddies.  Log in with your child and take a look at this fun website.  Thanks for practicing addition facts at home!  I have a copy of your child’s log in information if you can’t locate your copy!

This is a wonderful group of kiddos!  Thanks for sharing them with me!
