Monthly Archives: December 2015

I’d like to thank each of you for your support during the first 1/2 of first grade.  I know parents are busy and I appreciate that you take the time to read and do homework with your child, as well as send in supplies and volunteer in our classroom!  It’s so much fun to watch the kids as they learn!  I am proud of each one of “my kids” for many different reasons!  When we come back to school in 2016 we will:

-begin “bubble gum” math facts

-include sentence writing with our spelling test

-begin learning the 7 habits of happy kids

I sent home a special packet of fun papers for the kids to work on during our break.  I know your vacation will be filled with family, friends, parties and hopefully some relaxation.  I’d love to have the kids work on their booklet but it is absolutely optional!

Mr.Heiney’s class has challenged us to see which class can earn the most stickers in First In Math over our Winter Break.  Go 1-T!

Pizza Hut Reading Logs

Please send your child’s reading log  to school tomorrow so I can return it with a pizza certificate to enjoy over break.  One of the kids handed in a reading log last week with no parent signature or student name.  All of the clocks were shaded in with a pencil except for two.  Those were shaded with a blue pen and a red crayon.  If you recognize this reading log, please let me know.  None of the kids are claiming it!  Thanks!

DEAR day is tomorrow – Please send gloves, hats and scarves to school along with a good book or two!

Grinch Day Fun

I remembered the “green Grinch grime” to practice our spelling words, I remembered to bring the Grinch juice,  I remembered to wear green, I even remembered to wear a green hat, but I forgot to bring my camera to school!!  I was so bummed.  Luckily it didn’t stop us from having a great day of green, Grinch fun!  Thank you parents for donating supplies to make our special day memorable!

Did your child come home on Friday and ask for a pogo stick?  We ended our day on Friday with an X-pogo assembly.  This extreme pogo team talked to the students of Eshleman about following their passion and working hard.  They performed some very impressive pogo stunts including jumping right over Dr. Cox!  This team shared a great message and entertained our students!  Lucky us!

Excitement is in the air but we’re still plugging away with our school work.  Keep practicing those spelling words.  We’ll have our test on Wednesday!

Reminders –

Tuesday- DEAR (Drop Everything and Read).  Send your student to school with gloves, hats, scarves and a good book!  We’ll be reading while we wear our winter gear even though it feels more like spring outside!  We also have gym today.

Wednesday – PJ’s day in 1-T.  We’ll be joining with Mr. Heiney’s class for a Polar Express celebration.  Everyone will receive a golden ticket to board the 1-T train!  We’ll have some hot chocolate Math fun using mini marshmallows to add and subtract and of course there will be plenty of real hot chocolate to drink!  Wednesday is a 1:30 early dismissal day.

When we return from winter break on January 4 we will get started with our bubble gum Math program.  Each student will work at his/her own pace to learn math facts and pass timed tests to earn paper gumballs for his/her individual gumball machine. Practicing Math Facts at home each night will be part of your child’s homework.  Thank you so much for your support!  Log into First in Math over vacation when you have time!

When we return on January 4th it will be cycle day one.  We will have music and book exchange.  “A” lunch is chicken nuggets, and “B” lunch is egg McComet.

If you are able to donate any of the following items for our green day please send me an email before you purchase anything so we don’t get doubles.  I’d like to have all donations by Thursday if possible.  Thanks!

24 sugar cookies

20 green plates

20 green cups

1 large jug of green (Hawaiian?) punch

2 tubes of black icing (not gel)

2 bags of mini marshmallows

1 bag of mini chocolate chips

3  packages of yard sale dots – (The blank circles for yard sale pricing)

Dec.  22 – DEAR (Sshhh, it’s a surprise).  Send the kids to school with gloves, hats, and mittens, and scarves

spelling test with SH words

Polar Express Day with Mr. Heiney’s class.  Send the kids to school wearing their pajamas!

The kids don’t know about our special December activities.  Please try to keep them a secret for a few more days.  The excitement level in our room is building so I have the kids on a “need to know” basis for now!

We have a spelling test on Monday.  Please practice your words one more time this weekend.

Monday is the deadline for placing a book order.  Please let me know if you would like me to send the books to the office (for gift giving) when they arrive.

I introduced the kids to our class pet today.  On Monday we are going to give him a name!  He will have a chance to go home with every friend in our room. Instructions come with him along with a journal for your child to write about the adventures they have together.   We can’t wait to read all about his weekend with Layla!

Holiday Shop

Our day to shop for gifts for family and friends is tomorrow (Wednesday, Dec. 2).  If you would like your child to participate in this optional activity, please send money to school.  We will be shopping first thing in the morning.  There will be PTO volunteers available to assist with shopping so feel free to include any special instructions regarding your child’s purchases!
