We’ll be performing our Gingerbread Reader’s theater for our 5th grade buddies and Mr. Heiney’s class tomorrow.  The kids have done such a great job reading their lines.  Today we made a gingerbread house as our “setting.” We’re vert excited!  We’re becoming GREAT readers!

It’s Grinch Day!!

A few things…

Our spelling test will be on Monday, December 12.  New words will come home on Tuesday.

Each night your child has several things to do as homework:

Read the book from their red reading folder

Practice Math flash cards for a few minutes

Practice their spelling words

Thanks so much for your help!  One additional item I’d like your help with is with shoe tying.  It’s time for the kids to practice this skill so they can begin to tie their own shoes.  I think I’m getting too old to bend down and tie so many shoes…  That’s what I tell the kids anyway!

Quite a few of my first grade friends are coming in from recess with red hands and ears.  I have a few sets extra gloves in my room to borrow, but please send a coat, hat and gloves to school for outside recess.

Friday, December 16 – Drop Everything And Read at Eshleman.  Students are allowed to wear warm PJ’s to school, and bring a blanket or stuffed animal too.  Students may also bring in books they would like to read during this time.  We have plenty to choose from in our room, too!

We will also be having a Grinch Day on 12/16.  We’ll incorporate some green Grinch activities throughout our day and have a special treat before we go home.  If you are able to donate any supplies for our special day, that would be wonderful!  We need:

1 bag of pretzel sticks                                                      1 box of uncooked spaghetti

1 bag of mini marshmallows                                          1 thin tube of black icing (not gel)

21 green plates                                                                  100 green yard sale dots

21 green cups

1 large bottle of green Hawaiian punch

1 bag mini chocolate chips

21 sugar cookies (no icing or decorations)

Mark your calendar:

December 23 – 1:30 early dismissal

December 24-January 2 – No school

January 3 – Students return to school

If you would like to be a mystery reader in our room beginning in January 2017, please let me know.  1:00 PM is a great time for us, but we can be flexible with our schedule.
