Gertrude Hawk orders are due on 10/31.  Thank you for supporting Eshleman students!

Eshleman is collecting new or gently used coats, sweaters, hats, scarves, and gloves for the Gregory Frey Memorial Coat Drive.  There is a donation box located in the vestibule as you enter Eshleman.  There is also a collection box at John Herr’s.  We would love for you to drop off some donations!  Thanks!

Our short /e/ spelling test is on Thursday.

There is no school on Friday, Nov. 3.  Please notify the office of any transportation changes.  (Jennifer.Rohrer@pennmanor.net)

This Was the Best Day of my Life – said many first graders

Thank you to everyone who had a hand in Friday’s First Grade Fall Fest – From sending in donations, to volunteering your time, to sending your kiddo to school prepared with a jacket or sweatshirt.  Everyone had a good time rotating to our seven fall themed stations (pumpkin ring toss, pumpkin bowling, fall bingo, cookie decorating, leaf rubbing, make a pumpkin, apple stacking/apple relay).

On Thursday I will SURPRISE  first graders with a fun day of learning all about bats.  We’re going to learn the difference between bats and birds, read and write about bats, review vowels with a fun bat song, and make a bat craft.  We’ll even do some bat Math.  Our room will even be turned into a bat cave!  I’m sooooo excited I feel like I’m going batty, LOL!  If you have a small flashlight that you could send to school on Thursday (labeled with your child’s name) that would be great.  We’re going to do some reading using flashlights!

Please remember our BAT day is a surprise for the class.  I may tell them on Wednesday, but definitely not before then.  Thanks for helping to keep this a surprise!

Science Fair Bags

Each first grader will need a plastic grocery bag for our science fair on Thursday.  This will be used to carry around all of their hands on science projects they make with MU future teachers.  If you could please place your child’s name on the bag when you send it to school that would be great!  Bags may be sent to school any day this week.  Thank you!

Fall Festival Donations

Our first grade fall fest will be here before you know it.  Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help!  I’ll be contacting you soon with a time to arrive!  In the meantime, there are a few supplies that we need.  If you’re able to contribute anything on this list, please email me.  I’d like all donations sent to school by Wednesday, October 25.  Thanks so much!

2 bags of candy pumpkins (donated, thank you!)

24 plastic knives (donated, thank you!)

2 containers of fall sprinkles (or sprinkles that are orange, brown, red, or green) (donated, thank you!)

2 containers of white icing (donated, thank you!)

6 apples (donated, thank you!)

24 white lunch bags (donated, thank you!)

24 small (dessert sized) plates (donated, thank you!)

1 skein of green yarn (donated, thank you!)

Thanks so much!

We’ve had a bit of a rough week with friendships in our room.  I’ve heard from parents and students that various children aren’t being kind to one another (out on the playground).  We talked about two things:  Think about the words you are saying & say your words nicely.  We’re going to continue talking and role playing because each one of your children is special to me and I want to help them to develop friendships.

Our class received the “Golden Record” award from Ms. Brennan, our music teacher.  This is given to the class who earns the most good behavior points in the cycle.  Receiving this award made us all feel proud of ourselves and reinforced that this group of kids can work together to achieve great things!

You may have noticed that you place papers in your child’s Froggy Folder on the “Return to School” side and they are still in the folder when your son/daughter returns home.  These papers are for your child to bring to me every morning.  We have talked about this being the children’s responsibility since the first day of school.  Every morning I remind the class to look inside their Froggy Folder to see if there are papers for me.  I don’t take them out myself because I’m training the children to be organized and  think about their responsibilities at school.  You can help when you see these papers by reminding your son/daughter to turn them in each morning.  Together, I think we can help the kids to remember this small part of our daily routine.

Next Week will be extra busy!
