Dress your child for COLD weather!

Because of falling
temperatures and high winds, parents are reminded to make sure their children
are wearing warm coats, hats and gloves as they head for school Thursday.

The National
Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory from 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan.
30, until noon Thursday, Jan. 31.

Temperatures are
expected to drop to just above zero Wednesday night and remain in the single
digits Thursday morning, with wind chills as low as 10 to 20 degrees below zero.

Please take
steps to assure that you and your children limit exposure and stay safe
outdoors.

A note from our MU student…

Hello Parents/Guardians, My name is Miss Erin Fagan, and I am a senior at Millersville University. I am completing my dual major in special education and elementary education, and as part of my coursework this semester I have been given the opportunity to work with Mrs. Terry and your children in their 1st grade classroom. I wanted to reach out to introduce myself and say how excited I am to get to know your children. I am looking forward to learning a lot from them as well as helping them to learn and grow throughout the year. I hope to get the opportunity to meet many of you as well while working with all of your wonderful children. I will be in the classroom all day on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays up until the beginning of May. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out or email me at emfagan@millersville.edu. Thank you, Miss Fagan

Information is now posted for the spring session of Study Buddies at Millersville University.  Here is the link:http://mustudybuddies.wixsite.com/studybuddies

I have had students that received this service before and it’s great. The MU student can do homework or reading/math support with your child. If interested, check it out.

I think our first “Fun Friday” was a hit. The kids didn’t get to play for very long because I showed them how to play each new activity and how to clean things up. Next week we’ll have more time for the FUN! My expectations for student behavior raise the second half of the school year. Students know by now that my expectations are: be a good listener, be a kind friend, raise your hand for permission to speak, and follow directions. I appreciate your support from home when you are notified of behavior issues. Thank you so much!

Next week:  It’s pirate week!

Monday, 1/14 – Our special is Art. Please study AR (say it like a pirate) spelling words for our test on Thursday.

Tuesday, 1/15 – Our special is Applied Engineering. This will be our last class with Mr. Kelley as our specials will change slightly in marking period 3. We’ll continue to learn about the AR sound, and we’ll say it way too much in one day. It’s fun to be a pirate in school.

Wednesday, 1/16 – Our special is Music. Please study AR words for tomorrow’s test. We’ll continue to learn about tens and ones during Math. We’ll learn about Martin Luther King, Jr.

Thursday, 1/17 – We’ll have a substitute today while I read individually with the kids! I love spending 1-1 time with these cuties! Today is PIRATE DAY! The kids may dress like a pirate if they would like to. (Headbands, gold jewelry, eye patches, bright clothing). We made pirate hooks for our hands! I’m sure dressing like a pirate will help us to ace our spelling test! We’ll be going on a treasure hunt around the school to find AR words. We’ll continue to learn about Martin Luther Kind, JR.

We have book exchange today. Please send library books to school.

Tonight is the PTO rollerskating party at the castle. Admission is paid by the PTO, families must purchase skate rentals. Students must be accompanied by an adult.

Sunday, 1/20 – Last day to order books from Scholastic.

Monday, 1/21 – No School

New Special Schedule as of 1/22

We will have an MU student (Erin Fagan) in our class on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday until the end of May. She’ll work with students under my guidance, and even teach some lessons.

Looking Ahead: Friday, February 1 is the 100th day of school. We’ll celebrate by dressing like 100 year old people, and have a 100th day party in the afternoon. Students will rotate to stations. If you want to have fun with some cute kids, please let me know. More details to follow.

Enjoy your weekend!

A few things…

We shook things up for the new year. We have a new seating arrangement, we’re getting a new student on Tuesday, our golden ticket reward system will be changing, and we have many new Daily 5 stations. My favorite new stations: use the lite brite to make spelling words, and typing them on my old fashioned typewriter! SO MUCH FUN! I want to go back to first grade! Oh, wait….

Monday, January 7 – We will have a substitute teacher. Our special is Phys. Ed. We’ll take our chapter 4 math test and our Benchmark 2 test in Math. We have book exchange!

Tuesday, January 8 – Our special is Art. Please study spelling words for out test tomorrow. There is an Eshleman PTO mtg. tonight @ 6:30. Come join the fun!

Wednesday, January 9 – Our special is Applied Engineering. We have a spelling test today. Please practice Math flash cards at home for a few minutes each night. These will be graded on our MP3 report card.

Thursday, January 10 – Our special is Music. We’ll have a special community helper come in to teach us about sign language! Please send library books to school for book exchange tomorrow.

Friday, January 11 – Our special is Phys. Ed. Our golden ticket reward system will be changing a little. Students will still earn golden tickets for good behavior, but instead of buying reward coupons, they will earn a chance to participate in “Fun Friday.” Students will have a chance to choose games and toys (I’m bringing in my marble roller!) that are reserved just for this reward day.

Looking Ahead:

January 17 – End of MP2/ PTO rollerskating party at the Castle Rollerskating Rink

January 18 – No school

January 21- No school

January 25 – 1:30 early dismissal

January 28 – Yearbook orders due

Feb. 1 – Report cards come home

February 1 is our 100th day of school! Can you believe it? We’ll have a 100 day celebration with Mr. Heiney’s class and we need your help! If you’re willing to supervise cute kids while they work at fun stations in the afternoon (approximately 12:45-2:30) please let me know. I’ll be sending home a sign up genius for volunteers in the next week or two which will have specific times listed.

Happy 2019

I hope that everyone had a fun and relaxing break! I miss the kids and am looking forward to seeing them tomorrow! I’m sure they will have many stories to share!

Wednesday, January 2 – We’ll start our week off with Art class. We’ll have a two day math lesson on finding missing addends, and we’ll write some New Year Resolutions.

Thursday, January 3 – Our special is Applied Engineering. Ms. Wilson will be testing the entire school this month, so she’ll only be taking her students 2 days/week. We’ll continue with reading groups each day in our room.

Friday, January 4 – Our special is Music. We’ll review for our chapter 4 Math test that we’ll take on Monday. We’ll continue to learn about our community. Today is first Friday spirit day at Eshleman. Send the kids to school wearing their Eshleman shirt or blue and gold!

A few reminders for the new year:

December Pizza Hut Reading Logs can be turned in this week. Thanks for reading at home.

Please send lunch money to school in a zip lock bag labeled with your student’s name and 1-T.

Homework each night for just a few minutes:

Reading group book

Math fact practice

Spelling word practice

Now that the weather is cold, please send the kids to school with winter coats, gloves, and hats. We’ve had many days of indoor recess due to rain puddles on the playground, but we hope to go outside as much as possible when the weather is reasonable. I have 7 pairs of extra gloves for students to borrow, but that never seems to be enough for all of those cold hands!

Looking Ahead:

Monday, January 7 – I will have a substitute. Our special is Phys. Ed.

Thursday, January 17 – I will have a substitute so I can read individually with each of the kids. Eshleman rollerskating party at the castle sponsored by our wonderful PTO!

Friday, January 18 – Teacher in-service, no school for students

Monday, January 21 – No school

Friday, January 25 – 1:30 early dismissal
