Each grade is wearing a different color. First graders have been asked to wear red to show their spirit. I love when we all dress alike. It’s easy to keep track of the kids!

Did you hear that we planted radishes and spinach in our school garden? We’ve been watering them and watching for some growth to pop up through the ground. So exciting! I have a special “Fun Friday” activity planned for the class. I hope the weather is nice. Stay tuned to hear what it is!
A Busy Week Ahead
So many papers and tests came home on Friday, sorry! Please sign and return Math and Spelling tests, and if you haven’t had a chance to sign and return the report card cover, feel free to send that in too!
I’m assuming you have met your child’s new friend – the chick in an egg! Please send the chick back to school each day so we can take care of him/her and write about the fun they have been having together!
The most important paper is our field trip permission slip. Please read the instruction sheet carefully and be sure to check the appropriate boxes and sign where needed. You may send this to school as soon as it is completed. We are having school picture day on our field trip day! This is great because now we get to have our pictures taken first!
During our science fair on Wednesday the kids each had a chance to plant some wildflowers. We placed them on our sunny windowsill and have been observing and drawing what we see each day.
We had our hot chocolate reward party on Friday complete with whip cream and sprinkles. Not one kiddo spilled their hot chocolate! How did that even happen?
We have a fun and busy week ahead:
Monday, April 15 – There will be a substitute in our room. The kids have Music class. They will finish our time and measurement unit in Math by completing a Telling Time Art Project. New spelling words will come home today. We’re going to have our test on Thursday. Students will only have 4 days to practice their words, but this way you won’t have any homework over our long break! It is PSSA week for the “big kids” in grades 3-6. We made some special treats for our 5th grade buddies in 5-Becker. All students are encouraged to wear sweatshirts today because Eshleman students can show what they know – no sweat!
Tuesday, April 16 – Our special is library and book exchange. Please send library books to school. If the weather cooperates, we’re going to go outside to the Eshleman garden to plant some spinach. It will be fun to watch our plants grow. I’m hoping to make spinach smoothies with the kids if everything grows well! Please practice spelling words tonight. We’ll begin a new Math chapter on 2 dimensional shapes.
Wednesday, April 17 – Our special is Art class. Miss Fagen will teach all afternoon. She’ll do a fun “marshmallow peep” science experiment with the class. Please practice spelling words for our test tomorrow.
Thursday, April 18 – Our special is Phys. Ed. We’ll have a spelling test today. We’ll sort and graph jellybeans. Mrs. Beard will come in to teach another Junior Achievement lesson. We’ll continue to write about the fun we’re having with our chicks at home. We’ll go outside for an egg hunt with a twist. Students will need to solve the Math fact inside their egg before they receive a special treat!
Friday, April 19 – No school. Enjoy the extra time with your family!
Monday, April 22 – No school. We’ll see everyone back at school tomorrow.
Tuesday, April 23 – We’ll learn about Earth Day this week. Our special will be Music.
A little spring fun
Next week I’d like to sort and graph jellybeans, and I thought it would also be fun to have a candy scramble or egg hunt. Donations of jellybeans (any flavor or brand) and some bags of mini chocolate or chewy candy would be much appreciated. I would prefer not have any hard candy like lollipops, jolly ranchers etc.. Donations may be sent to school until Tuesday, April 16. Thanks so much!
Monday, April 8 – We have Phys. Ed. Please send the kids to school wearing sneakers. Report cards will come home today. Please keep the report card and score card at home. Sign and return the brown envelope and comment sheet. Thank you!
Tuesday, April 9 – Our special is Music. Please practice spelling words for a few minutes tonight.
Wednesday, April 10 – We have library and book exchange. MU students will be coming over to have a science fair with first grade. This is always a very fun day of learning!
Thursday, April 11 – Our special is Art. Mrs. Beard will come in for a Junior Achievement lesson.
Friday, April 12 – Our special is Phy. Ed again. Please wear sneakers to school. We’ll take our chapter 8 math test on measuring and time. This has been a very fun chapter! We’ll have a spelling test on Long O words.
