Weekly Update:

Monday October 17th: Day A: Special is Gym

Tuesday October 18th:  Day B: Special is Art

Wednesday October 19th:  Day C: Special is Music.  Decades Day -Students dress according to their favorite decade: 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s.  . Library books should be back at school by this time if they go home.

Thursday October 20th- Day D : Special is Applied Engineering. Book Exchange

Friday October 21st- Day A: Special is Gym. Information regarding conference sign-ups will be going out on this day.

Looking ahead:

Week of 23rd- Red Ribbon Week: there will be spirit days scheduled for each day of this week

November 4th- No School for students

Reading Lesson 6 in Storytown:

Story Genre: Auto-Biography- a person’s story of his or her own life

Focus Skill: Making predictions- use story details and use prior knowledge to help you make a prediction of what may happen next while you are reading.

Grammar: Nouns- a noun names a person, place, thing, animal or idea.

Writing Skill: Paragraph writing with a topic, 3 detailed sentences and a conclusion sentence.

Math: Module 2 Addition and Subtraction of length units.

Lesson 7: Measure and compare lengths using standard metric length units and non-standard length units; relate measurement to unit size.

Lesson 8:  S will solve addition and subtraction word problems using the ruler on a number line.

Lesson 9: Measuring lengths of string using measurement tools and using tape diagrams to compare and measure lengths.

Content-Social Studies:

Last week we focused on directions on a compass, making a map of our classroom and how to use directions to get to different locations.

We will be wrapping up this unit this week and transitioning to our animals unit where students will learn the characteristics and differentiate between the following animal groups; birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids.
