Wednesday January 18th  Day C: Special is Music. If library books go home, they should be back at school on this day

Thursday January 19th– Day D: Special is Applied Engineering. Lesson 14 Reading and Spelling Tests are on this day. Library book exchange.

Reading:

Story Genre: Nonfiction- a story that has real facts about a topic.

Grammar: Pronouns- a pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun. Ex: she, he, they, them, you, us.

Writing skill: Dialogues- students will learn to write short dialogues using quotation marks.

Math:

Module 4: Addition and subtraction within 200 with word problems to 100.

Lesson 5: Solve one- and two step word problems within 100 using strategies based in place value.

Lesson 6: Use manipulatives to represent the composition of 10 ones as 1 ten with two-digit addends.

Lesson 7: Relate addition using manipulatives to a written vertical method.

Content-Social Studies

This week we went into depth about the advantages and disadvantages of solar, wind, hydro-electrical energy and fossil fuels.

Next week we will go over how to converse and save energy in our daily lives.

Readathon is Back!

The high school Civitas club members will be visiting each elementary school twice to read books, lead crafts and activities, and encourage the love of reading. This program is for students in kindergarten, first, and second grade and is completely free through a Strong and Healthy Kids grant. The Readathon will be held on Thursday, Feb 23rd and Thursday, March 16th from 3:30-4:30pm. Sign-up online here to reserve your spot. 

  • Students will be dismissed via an announcement and only then should they leave their classrooms and head to the Readathon after school activities. 
  • The program will be held in the PRIMARY COMMONS 
  • Students will need to be picked up promptly at 4:30 PM from the front/main lobby (by the office).

Story Genre: NonFiction- Gives facts about a topic

Grammar: Singular Possessive Nouns-ma possessive nouns shows ownership. It tells who or what something belongs to. An ‘s is used to form a singular possessive noun.

Writing Skill: Paragraph writing with a topic, 3 detailed sentences and a conclusion sentence. To capitalize a proper noun. To use basic rules of punctuation.

Content-Social Studies

This week we began our Holidays Around the World lessons. The holidays learned this week were Christmas, Christmas in Canada, Diwali, Boxing Day and Three King’s Day.

Next week they will learn about St. Lucia Day, Ramadan, and Las Posadas.

Grammar: Proper Nouns- months of the year, days of the week and holidays are proper nouns that need to start with a capital letter.

Writing Skill: Paragraph writing with a topic, 3 detailed sentences and a conclusion sentence. To capitalize a proper noun. To use basic rules of punctuation.

Content-Social Studies

This week we finished our animal groups unit.

Next week we will begin to learn about Native American tribes.
