Week of May 1st……

Hello Everyone,

It’s hard to believe that tomorrow marks the half way point for our 4th marking period! Stay tuned for what’s coming up this week.

Curriculum News:

Reading:  Today, we finished performing the Twisted Fairytales Readers’ Theaters.  The children did a fabulous job and really enjoyed performing as well as watching!  Tomorrow, we will begin lesson twenty-six.  Our focus skill is to summarize and paraphrase text.  Also, to understand the differences and similarities between summarizing and paraphrasing. Our reading selection is a narrative nonfiction piece about the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Spelling:  Your child received her/his spelling homework packet today.  The packet is due on Thursday and the test will be given on Friday.

Math: In math this week we will finish reviewing fifth grade math, before moving on to our preview of the sixth grade curriculum in the middle of next week. Monday we will review units 10-12 and then take the final benchmark test of the year in fifth grade on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday through Friday we will review the steps to adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. This week we will be working on a project with baked good recipes. If you would like, students may bring in one of the baked recipes to share with classmates on Friday while we answer each other’s math problems. Keep up the hard work on all those fractions problems, and practice those multiplication facts.

Reminders:

Monday, May 8th:  Our Olympic Day is being held in the morning.

The children are still rocking the house with their growth mindsets!  Keep it up, 5th Graders!!!

Thank you for your support and have a wonderful week!

Mrs. Eby 🙂
