This is my first post for the 2016/2017 school year. The children have been working hard and doing a super job of getting into our routine! I know they will keep up the good work.
Curriculum News: Reading: Last week we wrapped up our small unit on learning about the differences between having a growth mindset versus a fixed mindset. Plus, we finished learning about the eight different smarts that we each possess in our brain. Throughout the year, we will incorporate these concepts into our lessons. Last Thursday, we began our first reading anthology lesson. We will continue the lesson today and finish it up by the end of the week. Our focus skill for lesson number one is plot: conflict and resolution. Our reading selection is realistic fiction.
Spelling: Your child will receive her/his second spelling homework packet today. He/she has Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night to complete the three pages. The packet will be turned in on Friday morning. Your child’s second spelling test will also be on Friday. Please help your child to prepare for the spelling test by giving her/him a practice test this Thursday evening.
Math: In math this week we will be continuing our first unit, which is studying place value concepts. Last week we worked hard on value of numbers and the 3 different number forms: standard, word, and expanded. This week we will begin comparing whole numbers on Tuesday, comparing decimals on Wednesday, and complete Thursday and Friday with more comparing and ordering of decimals and whole numbers. On Wednesday we will have our first math quiz, on number forms, place value, and comparing whole numbers. Keep up the hard work in class and on your homework assignments.
Reminders: Thursday, September 14th is “Meet the Teacher Night” from 4:00-6:00.
Friday, September 15th is a 1:30 dismissal.
Have a wonderful week and thank you for your support!
Mrs. Eby 🙂
